12 Jan 2024

Vacancy expired!

The Pixie Project is seeking a hard-working and positive person to join our team as a Kennel Technician. Our Kennel Technicians keep Pixie’s shelter animals happy and healthy while they wait to find their forever homes.

Daily Responsibilities Include:

-Feeding and administering medications to dogs and cats

-Walking dogs

-Cleaning and disinfecting kennels, cages, and other areas of the shelter

-Washing dishes and doing laundry

-Organizing donated items (pet food, blankets, beds, etc.)

-Grooming and bathing animals

-Assisting with animal intake and evaluation

-Monitoring animals for abnormal behavior or health issues

-Other duties as assigned

Desired Skills & Experience:

Prior experience working with animals can be helpful, but is not required. More important to us is finding someone with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.

Other Key Skills/Qualities for Kennel Technicians Include:

-Comfortable working with cats and dogs of varying ages, health statuses, and temperaments.

-Ability to stay focused amidst chaos and noise. The kennel can be a loud and chaotic environment, and you will walk dogs near busy roads with heavy car and pedestrian traffic. Kennel Technicians need to stay calm and composed to ensure the safety of both animals and humans.

-Team player. Kennel Technicians work in pairs. You’ll need to communicate effectively with your partner and share the work equally.

-Strong attention to detail. You’ll be counted on to note things like medication dosages and behavioral notes for the shelter animals and respond appropriately, and to see tasks through to the end. You’re able to identify what needs to be done without always being told.

Physical abilities: The Kennel Technician role can be physically demanding. It requires frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, standing, and walking. You will walk dogs outside, rain or shine, and will sometimes lift heavy items and dogs up to 50 lbs. You may assist in animal restraint and deal with distressed animals, and could be subject to bites and scratches. Applicants must be 18 years or older.

This is a part-time position for approximately 20-25 hours/week. Schedule is made up of some a.m. shifts (7a.m.-12p.m.) and some p.m. shifts (3p.m.-7p.m.). Availability and flexibility to occasionally cover shifts is a plus. Please include your availability when applying!

The starting pay rate for this role starts at $17/hour.
