Lead coverage of breaking/developing news stories both editorially and logistically for both the newsroom and field crewsResearch, coordinate, pitch & implement coverage of breaking news, continuing coverage and community storiesAbility to quickly assess what is needed on coverage of a breaking storiesAbility to find & book experts and community members who help define a story Collaborate with the website, social media, and streaming teamsInitiate & maintain communication with affiliates & News Channel counterparts Consistently monitor and break news through social media platforms and tools Establish & maintain working story & contact filesWorking Knowledge of Police ScannersWorking knowledge of live production/transmissionAble to work independently and as a member of a team Ability to clearly communicate ideas and status updates to both editorial and technical teamsBachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications.At least 4 years’ experience including: work in a broadcast news environment, coordinating assignments, generating story ideas.Two years’ experience as an Assignment Editor.Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
