POSITION SUMMARY:

The Automation Project Engineer will perform cost justification, lead project reviews, obtain financial approval, and work with integrators and contractors to fully implement automated equipment. This position will also perform troubleshooting, design improvements, and retrofitting of previously implemented automated and semi-automated equipment.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Build safety into every aspect of equipment

2. Design equipment and procedures to automate the production process

3. Conduct studies to improve equipment OEE

4. Address production efficiency issues and implement solutions

5. Prepare and present concept layouts and drawings

6. Perform system diagnostics and prepare reports

7. Work cross functionally with teams to aid increased efficiency of production and Manufacturing Engineering processes

8. Ensure volume and mix flexibility in equipment and processes

9. Improve labor, space efficiency, and costs effectiveness

10. Standardize equipment and processes across plants

11. Develop and document Operator and Maintenance training

12. Work with Maintenance to create maintenance procedures, PM schedule, and spare parts list

13. Identify and qualify equipment integrators and suppliers

14. Justify, install, test, qualify, administer training, and successfully implement equipment into full production

EXPERTISE REQUIRED / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Welding, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering

• Experience in a low volume, high complexity/model-mix manufacturing environment

• Understanding of assembly, painting, fabrication, and welding processes

• Understanding of design principles such as Data Analysis, DOE, GD&T,

FMEA, DFM/DFA

• Solid understanding of robotic programming, with proven experience

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across cross functional teams

• Knowledge of ladder logic, and ability to troubleshoot

• Ability to travel up to 30-40% across North America

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Working in an office environment in a seated position a minimum of eight hours per day is required. At times, this job operates in a manufacturing plant environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand (sometimes for extended periods); walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
