Cardiac Anesthesiologist

University of Pittsburgh Physicians seeks a Cardiac Anesthesiologist to perform preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care for patients who undergo heart surgery and other related procedures; administer anesthetic or sedation during surgical operations involving the heart, lungs, and other operations of the human chest, and procedures such as minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery and complex multi-stage aortic surgery; monitor patients’ physical conditions and bodily reactions to anesthesia during surgical procedures; document all aspects of care directly administered, perform consultations, and communicate with surgeons, patients, family members, and other anesthesia staff; examine patients’ medical histories and use diagnostic tests to determine and counteract potential risks or adverse reactions that may occur during surgical procedures; coordinate care and multi-modal pain management plans for patients recovering from surgery and establish preventative health practices.Job Responsibilities:

Perform preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care for patients who undergo heart surgery and other related procedures;

Administer anesthetic or sedation during surgical operations involving the heart, lungs, and other operations of the human chest, and procedures such as minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery and complex multi-stage aortic surgery;

Monitor patients’ physical conditions and bodily reactions to anesthesia during surgical procedures;

Document all aspects of care directly administered, perform consultations, and communicate with surgeons, patients, family members, and other anesthesia staff. Examine patients’ medical histories and use diagnostic tests to determine and counteract potential risks or adverse reactions that may occur during surgical procedures;

Coordinate care and multi-modal pain management plans for patients recovering from surgery and establish preventative health practices.

Medical degree, or equivalent;

Completion of residency in Anesthesiology;

Completion of ACGME accredited fellowship in Cardiac or Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology;

Valid unrestricted PA medical license;

Must be Board certified or Board eligible for certification in Anesthesiology.
