For more than a century, UPMC Magee has been caring for women through all stages of their lives, and we are looking for the next talented employee to join our team.Orthopedics (4100) is a 30-bed medical-surgical orthopedic unit that primarily cares for patients who have undergone elective surgeries such as hip and knee replacements, and we also receive all of Magee’s post-op bariatric surgery patients. We frequently use specialty orthopedic equipment such as continuous passive motion machines and bed trapezes. This is a patient-centered rehabilitative unit, a great environment for someone who wants to be directly involved in rehab as well as care; we also receive an overflow of general med-surg patients, making 4100 a perfect fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to build broad knowledge and/or gain new experience.What can you Expect as a Clinician?The Clinician is a nurse leader who has direct responsibility in the achievement of a culture of excellence and patient care who is a highly developed role model of professional nursing practice. Under the general direction of the Unit Director or other department manager, the Clinician will complete and deliver employee evaluations, conduct selection and hiring of staff, and manage the daily performance for a group of direct reports. The Clinician is responsible for providing service-based education and clinical expertise for staff including orientation and training, consultation on practice issues, and general coordination of clinical activities. Additionally, the Clinician may have shift accountability for delivering nursing care when needed.As a Clinician you will actively participate in the role of preceptor for student nurses, nurse interns, graduate and experienced nurses and assists with the development of new preceptors in their role. You will serve as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying patient and staff focused opportunities for improvement and leading the change process. The Clinician assumes formal leadership responsibilities for one or more of the following: quality improvement, evidence-based practice, GN or new hire on-boarding and completes and/or assists with staff performance evaluations for direct reports as applicable.Note: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned this job. Shifts/Hours: Our Clinicians work a daylight schedule with 2 weekends in a 6-week schedule, with flexibility to support department needs (rounding, events, etc)Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

Minimum 3 years of nursing experience

Bedside nursing experience with surgical, post op care preferred

BS/BSN required. Master’s degree preferred

If BS degree not in nursing, a master’s or higher degree in nursing required

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Registered Nurse (RN)

Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

National Certification preferred.
