As a content writer in the Office of Innovation and Technology, you’ll address phila.gov content requests from departments, offices, boards, and commissions, including general production tasks, such as adding staff, uploading documents, as well as building new pages.

 

You’ll help edit content provided by departments and write new content with a focus on clear, easy-to-understand language. You’ll work in close coordination with the departments’ primary content liaison, so they can draw on that expertise and make informed decisions about the organization and presentation of content.

 

You'll collaborate with departments across the City, learning about their functions and translating that information into plain language explanations of City services and programs. You’ll also work closely with members of the web team who are specialists in design, engineering, and content strategy.Essential Functions

    Handle general production tasks as assigned (adding staff, uploading documents, building new pages). 

    Support content needs for departments, with guidance from their primary content team contacts. 

    Edit department-provided content to ensure consistency with platform standards (standards.phila.gov). 

    Liaise with department staff to get clarity around existing content—truly understanding the department’s services.

    Coordinate with the content team and department content editors to ensure quality and cohesion with existing content. 

    Support web writing and backend trainings for department partners. 

    Participate in onboarding department communications staff, providing individualized training where necessary. Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
