Job Description

The Accounting Data Analyst is responsible for working primarily with the Department of Revenue’s Data and Research Unit to prepare reports on revenues and receivables. Most of the work will be performed in a Data Warehouse and Case Management (DWCM) environment utilizing taxpayer and water customer data from internal City systems and external Federal, State and third-party sources for the purposes of reporting and revenue generation. The Department is in the process of implementing a new Integrated Tax System (ITS), thus business process improvement and data modeling to improve operational performance will also be a significant focus going forward.

Essential Functions

The job will involve primarily using SQL Server suite of data management and reporting tools to work in the Department’s DWCM environment. The position will:

  • Prepare accounting schedules for incorporation into the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) of the City of Philadelphia, using tables stored in a data warehouse environment
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on revenues and receivables for management purposes, using tables stored in a data warehouse environment
  • Prepare and maintain interactive reports using tools such as Microsoft Power BI for management.
  • Develop analyses and prepare various operational reports on revenues and accounts receivables to relevant stakeholders (internal and external)

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree with a major in Accounting or Bachelor’s Degree with a major in accounting plus relevant accounting experience
  • Experience with data warehousing and/or large-scale databases

Competencies Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience with basic accounting principles and practices
  • Ability to write queries in SQL Server
  • Knowledge and experience with governmental accounting is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with business intelligence platforms such as Power BI and SAS Visual Analytics is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with R, Python, STATA or PHP is a plus
  • Knowledge of federal and/or Commonwealth of Pennsylvania taxation a plus

Additional Information

Salary Range: $60,000 -$70,000 (commensurate with education and experience)
