Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Data Warehouse Quality Assurance Analyst (DWQAA) supports information integration and delivery needs for DBHIDS as part of the enterprise data warehouse (EDW) team. The DWQAA works collaboratively with business stakeholders, data architects, data management professionals and other analysts to improve overall data and process quality and information security. The DWQAA is responsible for understanding the business definitions of data, where the data is collected, how it is published, and the technologies necessary to make it a useful resource for data consumers. As part of the EDW team, the DWQAA will support the activities of the enterprise business intelligence (BI) team as well as individual business unit analysts, and work on cross-unit EDW, BI, and master data management (MDM) projects. The DWQAA shall be responsible for: Testing and validating data warehousing solutions consistent with the vision and direction of the department’s Data Governance Framework Strategic Plan. Designing, implementing, and monitoring test cases for data integration programs that consume data from multiple sources, archive it, create load routines, and load it into an integrated data vault-based Kalido EDW implementation. Designing, implementing, and monitoring test cases for data integration programs that publish data from the EDW into dimensional models, flat files, and proprietary structures to meet the needs for reporting, analytics, and external data requests. Working closely with the business intelligence unit and internal customers across DBHIDS to validate reports and analytics capability using the Qliksense business intelligence platform. Working with data quality and business analysts to identify and resolve data issues through configuration of data cleansing and de-duplication software and the use of the Kalido MDM tools. Leading the data analysis for data quality issues such as duplicate records or missing values by identifying data integration errors. Assisting database administrators to ensure that the EDW is tuned for optimal performance. Supporting, understanding, and maintaining data lineage through source-to-target mapping documentation and documenting rules and procedures required to transform, process, and load data into the EDW or into reporting solutions. Supporting multiple application development and project teams and managing competing priorities. Assisting with maintenance of an enterprise metadata management capability to integrate data dictionaries with the enterprise business glossary. Suggesting and implementing process changes to improve the overall data quality of the Department. Assisting With the analysis of reporting requirements to determine if needed data already exists in the data warehouse environment or must be acquired. Suggesting ways to reuse data structures and processes to meet other reporting needs. Installing and configuring data profiling and other data management software.This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This DWQAA role requires a service-oriented mentality, a high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, a focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with expectations, establishing and maintaining communication with database stakeholders to keep them updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes. The DWQAA must be capable of working both independently and collaboratively.

Essential Functions Solutions Quality Assurance: understand solution requirements sufficiently to develop thorough test plans to ascertain that the solution meets all requirements. Data Quality Assurance: understand data sources and targets sufficiently to profile their data, develop thorough test plans, and validate and document the quality of the data. Metadata Quality Assurance: assist the data architect and other technologists in maintaining and validating metadata documentation for enterprise data management. Master Data Quality Assurance: assist master data management teams in validating master data and master data management processes. BI Reporting Quality Assurance: assist business intelligence teams and business data analysts to troubleshoot data quality issues in their respective areas of responsibility. Applied Research: perform directed research on various QA and data management subjects.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency in the use of structured query language (SQL). Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and Outlook, and PowerPoint or comparable productivity software. Proficiency in the use of various data modeling, data profiling, and general productivity tools and technologies. Strong organizational and administrative skills including prioritizing, multi-tasking, and keeping track of information or work in progress while ensuring accuracy. Strong time management, problem solving, and project management skills. Knowledge of the principles and practices of designing, developing, implementing, maintaining, evaluating, and controlling quality assurance, testing, and process improvement activities. Knowledge of the concepts of database management, database design, and internal data security mechanisms. Knowledge of information technology and familiarity with information design patterns, technology practices, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of current principles and best practices of data management within large organizations. Ability to design, write, test, troubleshoot and execute SQL scripts and queries. Ability to interpret a dimensional model to confirm that it based upon business requirements. Ability to communicate effectively and coordinate activities with other information technology staff in the development of test plans and quality assurance processes. Ability to communicate effectively between subject matter experts and developers to understand fully business needs and requirements. Ability to identify and communicate risks to project timetables, deliverables, or scope. Ability to analyze data quality problems and make realistic recommendations for their resolution. Ability to prepare clear, accurate and informative reports and documentation on quality assurance matters. Ability to promote and value diversity and understand multicultural and cultural competencies; ability to work effectively with management, technologists, business staff and other stakeholders from different backgrounds. Ability to adapt to changing business needs, conditions, and work responsibilities; responds to change with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work activities and objectives. Ability to apply professional judgment in complex situations and handle effectively multiple tasks, initiatives and priorities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree (coursework in Data Analysis, Information Management, Computer Science, or Information Technology preferred). Three (3) years of experience in developing test plans and providing quality assurance in a large heterogeneous organization, including design, development, performance, and evaluation, with at least one year of that experience in support of an enterprise data warehouse environment. A graduate degree with coursework in Information Management or Information Technology can be substituted for two years of general experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Additional Information

Salary Range: $58,000 - $68,000
