The I&T Leader in the Business Partner and Application Platforms group is a strategic business partner who will report to and work with the I&T Business Partner to help support and drive the overall business strategy and business value results as it relates to technology and applications.
The role develops relationships, working to converge functions of I&T and the business functions they support. The role works to identify ways in which I&T can support and advance objectives, in line with company, functional and I&T strategies. In conjunction with the R&D I&T Business Partner, this role will partner to shape business demand and create idea documents, business cases, and value plans; ensuring value optimization and communication; and enabling continuous improvement in all areas and people around them.
Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Develops a deep knowledge of the assigned R&D and builds positive relationships throughout. Additionally, educates the function(s) about processes, roles, and capabilities of I&T that can create value.
- Supports the development and drives the I&T vision and strategy for R&D which inspires confidence / creates purpose. This will role up into overall functional I&T and Business strategy & Book of Work
- Ensures business value realization and optimization, develops, and maintains technology roadmaps, business case development, financial awareness, managing expectations, and identifying opportunities where technology can add value.
- Engages in consistent and effective communication including managing escalation and avoiding risk.
- Works alongside the Project Managers and Business Analysts to ensure a healthy and well-managed initiative portfolio.
- Works with applications team(s) to ensure that business applications are maintained, supported, and optimized for the functions use.
- Partner with business leadership to plan new joint initiatives, evaluate proposals, and determine how technology fits into business capability roadmaps and priorities.
- With the Function I&T Leader, partners with appropriate I&T functions to establish matrix teams to establish solutions
- Focuses on business value and framing the problem before solutions development to develop ideas, including digital awareness, risk assessments, business continuity, and business capability requirements.
- Support the onboarding of project/program managers into the function and projects to ensure they are knowledgeable about the business and their objectives.
- Assist in evaluating project efforts and progress against joint strategic plans and objectives.
- Be creative and innovative using industry trends and digital advances as they relate to new opportunities and business needs.
- Requires a working understanding of I&T architectural principles to business solutions. Works with Enterprise Architects to ensure alignment across relevant I&T standards, methodologies, and frameworks
- Provide applicable business best practice guidance and support where needed, while supporting continuous improvement to applicable technology platforms and applications supported by applicable function(s). This may include multiple geographies
- Seeks to understand and promote project management best practices, processes, and frameworks
- Ability to visualize and create models/frameworks that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the business architecture
- Assists with the people and sourcing strategy to ensure the strategic goals of the business are met (Business Partnering, Project Management Support, Applications Support).
Position Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Education
- Undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, mathematics, etc.
- Eight years related strategic technology leadership with exposure to the functional area supported
- Bachelor’s degree/Master’s degree or equivalent; education preferably concentrated in IT, Engineering or Science; MBA desirable
Experience
- 10+ years related strategic technology leadership with exposure to the functional area supported
- Global management experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership experience including influencing senior management and critical stakeholders
- Pharma/Biotech or similarly regulated environment experience desirable

Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization; this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations, workshop facilitation and delivery, and other non-traditional forms of communication – capable of framing the problem in a meaningful and applicable manner
Collaborative mindset able to work effectively at all levels of an organization with the ability to influence others to move toward consensus
Strong situational analysis, decision making abilities and relationship management with key stakeholders across the organization
Proven leadership, especially situational leadership, in managing within a complex matrix environment
