SummaryJob DescriptionLOCATION: Lancaster, PAHOURS: 40 hours per week, mostly dayshift with flexibility as needed, weekends as needed for program developmentPOSITION SUMMARY: The Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital (LGH) ECMO Coordinator will have responsibility for the ECMO program at LGH.This position would act as the Lead ECMO Specialist. The position is responsible to ensure ECMO practices are concurrent with hospital, operational, and strategic goals, policies, and guidelines. The Coordinator will function as part of a multidisciplinary team and will work in close collaboration with the Director of Nursing, Critical Care, the Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) director, surgical team, intensivist team, and perfusionist team. The ECMO Coordinator is responsible for the training and development of competencies for all registered nurses (RNs), Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), Medical Doctors (MDs), and perfusion. This position ensures the program is compliant with Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) guidelines and recommendations. This role is responsible for coordination of data collection, accurate record keeping, and data entry in the ELSO registry. The ECMO Coordinator demonstrates a commitment to quality and excellence by promoting and maintaining status as an ELSO Center of Excellence. This position reports directly to the Director of Nursing, Critical Care.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:Clinical Care

Actively participates in multidisciplinary rounds

Ensures patient care practices are compliant with policy, procedures, and guidelines

Performs as an expert clinician for all phases of patient care.

Provides feedback on patient selection, management strategies, and opportunities for improvement to the interdisciplinary team

Education

Develops educational courses and competencies related to ECMO

Facilitates in-services required for new procedures and/or equipment.

Provides classroom training and assists in precepting new ECMO RN’s providing direct patient care.

Foster evidence-based research related to the ECMO program.

Coordination

Maintain ELSO database including collecting and submitting data to the registry

Maintain ELSO Center of Excellence

Participates in interdisciplinary ECMO meetings, reviews, and initiatives

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

Ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple demands. .

Understanding of HIPAA standards and patient privacy regulations.

Strong communication skills with all levels of staff and personnel.

Must be able to present at professional meetings/symposiums, etc.

Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTSMINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

RN, Perfusionist or Respiratory Therapist must hold an unencumbered licensure in Pennsylvania.

RN must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and hold the Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification.

Respiratory therapists must hold Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential

Perfusionists must hold Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) credential. 3+ years’ experience working in a critical care surgical setting is required.

A non-clinical candidate with an advanced degree in Biomedical Engineering/Bioengineering may be considered .

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior experience with ECMO patients and databases preferred.

Experience with EPIC.

Experience with Excel, Power Point, and Microsoft Word and database applications .
