Role Summary:

The Electric Motor/Control Design Engineer is responsible for definition of requirements, execution of design, analysis, development, and testing of electric motors and their control systems. The engineer will also provide technical direction to other engineers, or engineering support personnel regarding electrical equipment.

Requirements • Working with responsible engineering on electric motor design and development, mechanical design, FEA and simulation development, thermal analyses and prototype build and testing for motor applications. • Support selection/specification of components such as Motor/VFD/Soft Start/Controls/Relays, electrical cable, wiring and related instrumentation, measuring and monitoring equipment in pumping applications. • Collaborate with Flowserve cross-functional teams (Lead engineers, supply chain, product managers, program managers and quality) to define electric motor design and sizing to meet application requirements. • Work in test lab environment and become experienced with setup of instrumentation and test setups to provide electrical engineering support for R&D projects. • Provide support for critical motor applications on Flowserve products. • Embrace and drive a CIP environment throughout Flowserve and work with an Enterprise mindset. • Ensuring safety practices for all the above tasks and accountabilities is the first and last duty of the engineer. • Ability to travel 10% of the time.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • 1 - 3 years or more experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Effective time management and multitasking skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to be able to take electrical parameters. measurement, data acquisition and analysis information and delineate solutions.
  • Ability to perform calculations of motor characteristics such as losses, efficiency, power factor, winding technology, stator and rotor materials/single and 3 phase winding/phases/measurement.
  • Proficient in electronic theory to be successful with simulation tools and motor design applications like MotorSolve, Simulink or equivalent
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, including presentations, design reviews and technical reports.
  • Ability to create detailed technical drawings of electrical design for motor driven centrifugal pumps.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team oriented, and Continuous Improvement environment and with the field personnel for effective problem solving and tasks executed in a timely manner.
