We are hiring a farm mechanic. This is a position near and dear to my heart. Because until now, I have been the farm mechanic. We need help keeping up, and the job could be flexible depending on the candidate. This could be incredibly fun for someone who wants to go around fixing all kinds of stuff. (See below for a list of what we work on). It could be a real, in the field experience for a beginning mechanic, trusted to work on a wide variety of vehicles, tractors and equipment. We have a lot of old tractors, could be fun for someone semi-retired, or anywhere in between. We have buildings, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC that regularly need work too. And if you can fix the stuff, you can probably operate it, so if you are interested that could be part of your job. If you can weld, that would be great. But the core of the role is fixing vehicles, tractors and equipment for farming. If you commit to help keep our stuff running, we can work out a fun and rewarding position for you.
Starting at $20/hour depending on experience. Ideally full time with the occasional overtime weeks during peak season, but could be part time for the right candidate. We got stuff to fix right away, but we are busiest when there is the most going on, May - October. Overtime is the best way to help us and maximize your earnings. The easy money.
A lot of your time is going to be spent working with me. I like to think I am a fun guy to work with, and might even have some things to teach. But I want to work with someone who has some things to teach me as well, and who is always excited to learn more. The interpersonal dynamic is often the difference between a fun challenge that feels good and a depressing, never-ending lineup of broken things. We have only so much we can control. If we want a positive attitude, it is critical to feel like things are improving. Taking real measures so things are being better taken care of, with preventative maintenance done on time. You would be our first full-time mechanic, so we’d be putting a lot of these systems in place so we can work together effectively. Hopefully you can be patient as we work through the kinks, and be rewarded with a special role at a special place.
