About UPMC Hamot Critical Care: NICU - Our 24 bed, Level III, Neonatal ICU is an open pod unit with the absolute BEST Magnet NICU team around! The team has over 700 years of NICU Nursing experience and provides the highest quality of care using evidence-based practice and quality improvement projects. The positive patient outcomes are result of the excellent care that they receive. The NICU team was recently recognized by Press Ganey with the Guardian of Excellence Award with >95% patient satisfaction. Our unit cares for the most critically ill infants in a family-centered environment. We are proud of our teamwork with the NICU Core Respiratory department, Nutrition, Pharmacy, Case Management, Radiology, ECHO, and our volunteer Cuddlers. Our individual plan of care emphasizes our unique ability to care for infants and their families. The NICU parents are part of our care team from the beginning by participating in NICU daily rounds, developing a plan of care and preparing for discharge.MICU - This unit services patients with medical and oncology related conditions requiring intensive care, including post-cardiopulmonary arrest/resuscitation, patients with one or more system failure requiring observation and/or active management, circulatory failure requiring massive volume expansion and/or vasoactive medications, invasive monitoring, and respiratory failure requiring endotracheal intubation with mechanical ventilation. The unit also services patients with CNS instability, such as status epilepticus and increased ICP, who require active management. This ICU also provides acute care to the stroke population.What can you Expect as a Professional Staff Nurse? Shifts/Hours:  Our RNs work a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor. Graduate Nurses must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before beginning this role OR ability to start with TPP. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education. Qualifications The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.

Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

BSN preferred.

Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.

Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.

Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.

Mobility and visual manual dexterity.

Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: UPMC approved national certification preferred.

Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

ACLS within 1 year, NIH within 6 months

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

NIH Stroke Scale (NIH)
