As a Professional Staff Nurse and a member of the care delivery team, you will set the standards for the level and quality of nursing care and possess authority and accountability for its provision. What is the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program (GNRP)?UPMC Shadyside is pleased to announce we are NOW HIRING Graduate Nurses as full-time Professional Staff Nurses to support various hospital units as part of a special Rotational Program. The GNRP will begin in August 2023. Previous participants have had the opportunity to rotate through various units including 5 Main, 6 Main, 6 West and 7 Main for 10 months.5 Main Medical Oncology : 5 Main is 29-bed unit that specializes in caring for oncology patients with solid tumors, lymphoma, and hematologic disorders. The unit sees a broad spectrum of patients, from new diagnoses to patients transitioning into hospice and end-of-life care. RNs on this unit take an active role in providing education, care, and support for the patients and families who are confronting these new challenges. RNs work directly with the interdisciplinary team to ensure a smooth treatment course and discharge, as well as, transitions to home and hospice care. RNs will also be responsible for administering chemotherapy. This is a fast-paced unit with patients having an average length of stay of 4-5 days.6 Main Medical Oncology : 6 Main is a 32 bed medical oncology telemetry unit that cares for a wide range of patient’s with different oncological diagnoses, and other primary medical conditions that often focus on the cardiac, renal, and respiratory systems among others. UPMC Shadyside Hospital is connected physically to Hillman Cancer Center which is the main center of all cancer care within the UPMC system. The 6 Main Unit is UPMC Shadyside Hospital’s Dedicated Education unit where clinical staff nurses serve as instructors for the University of Pittsburgh nursingstudents. These clinical staff nurses receive special training and opportunities to pursue further education at the university.7 Main Oncology: 7 Main is a 27-bed hematology-oncology unit specializing in the treatment of leukemia. Length of stay is long for most patients on 7 Main, so we have a family resource lounge as well as rehab equipment directly on the unit. Our RNs work extensively with chemotherapy administration and provide our patients with thoughtful oncology education, therefore ease with communication is a key skill amongst our staff.6 West Surgical Neurology: 6 West is one of UPMC Shadyside's oncology units that specializies in stem cell transplants. Stem cell administration and bone marrow biopsies are performed at the bedside; patients also often receive chemotherapy, electrolyte infusions, and blood products. While transplant patients make up the majority of our patient population, we also care for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and occasionally solid tumors. On our unit, we work with medical devices such as trach tubes, chest tubes, and feeding tubes, and observe strict infection control precautions for immunocompromised patients. This is an ideal unit for nurses seeking to gain specialized oncology experience and who prefer to care for long-stay patients; patients on 6 West are high acuity and typically stay on the unit for 4-6 week. Why Join the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program?Opportunity to explore and find your right ‘home’ in nursing at UPMC
