This is skilled electrician work at the full performance at the Philadelphia International Airport. Employees are responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of 13.2KV primary distribution equipment and the alteration, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical switchgear, equipment, and fixtures. The class is distinguished from other electrician classes by the on-going repair and maintenance of high voltage primary distribution equipment. Work in the Airport requires the application of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations to repair and maintain electrical equipment used to guide commercial aircraft and awareness of hazards inherent in an airport environment. Work assignments are carried out in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), standard electrical practices, and general work instructions.Essential FunctionsBuilds, repairs, and maintains runway taxiway centerline fixtures, runway and taxiway edge lighting fixtures and beacons in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations; repairs and maintains 6.6 AMP taxiway and runway guidance signs; repairs, calibrates and maintains a precision approach path indicator lighting system; maintains, adjusts and repairs constant current regulators; maintains and repairs runway end identifier light (REIL) system and runway distance remaining sign lighting system; may repair or replace airfield lighting generator and related electrical systems; troubleshoots and replaces defective series to series isolated transformers; maintains and repairs Air Traffic Tower Auxiliary control stations and related wiring; maintains and repairs 6.6 AMP/20 volt series adapter type airfield cones; repairs and maintains power supply for jetbridge and baggage conveyor systems.Repairs and replaces fixtures, ballasts, and feeds; repairs and maintains automatic ticketing machines; repairs and replaces loop circles and metal sensors; lays out lighting for power circuits; rebuilds fixtures, changes bulbs, removes and replaces ceiling tiles, and performs routine electrical maintenance; may make repairs and corrections to electronic master clock system; operates a two-way radio to communicate with the air traffic control tower to receive permission to go out on or to cross airfield.Maintains and repairs lead acid-type batteries used for control circuit in air circuit type power breakers and emergency generator starting systems.May work in wet or dry wells of the Airport's sewage lift station.Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThe methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the electrician's trade.The principles and theory of electricity.The occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrician's trade, including work with high voltages.The regulations governing electrical installation, equipment, and appliances in Philadelphia as well as the National Electrical Code.Troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment to determine the cause of malfunctioning.Digital electronic components, including multiplexers.Learn the theories and principles of airfield lighting systems and troubleshoot, isolate and repair airfield series type lighting circuits for the Airport assignment.Learn Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations regarding the installation, maintenance and repair of airport electrical equipment and lighting for the Airport assignment.Cope with the occupational hazards and to follow safety precautions required to perform maintenance and repair of industrial plant equipment for the Water assignment.Install, alter, repair, maintain, and locate defects in a variety of electrical equipment and systems.Learn techniques necessary for the maintenance and testing of electronic and digital components.Work from an aerial platform bucket truck, or other comparable vehicle to perform repair or maintenance of elevated electrical equipment.Interpret and work from technical sketches, blueprints, and schematics.Draw working prints and diagrams.Follow written and oral instructions.Work - LifeIndustrial Electricians work a 40hr work week. This position may require you to work weekends and holidays You may also work ,day shift mid shift, or night shift.
