Are you living your life's work?The Lead Technologist is a full-time position, working 5 days a week, with rotating call covering nights, weekends and holidays. As with all NM/PET technologists, the lead technologist must have an ARRT (N) or CNMT certification and BLS certification. In addition to operating all NM/PET equipment to provide exceptional care for our patients, performing all NM/PET procedures, this position also requires working closely with the department manager ensuring quality patient care and efficiencies are obtained and maintained. Lead technologists will participate in team training and student oversight. Assuming supervisor responsibilities, when necessary, and working with the team to ensure regulatory compliance with DEP, NRC, and TJC. The Lead Technologist must be flexible and committed to supporting the needs of our patients and department. The purpose of the position is to perform, coordinate and supervise patient testing services while also supporting the department manager, as outlined below.Responsibilities:

Operate all nuclear medicine and PET scanners, patient vitals equipment, and hot lab equipment.

Thoroughly completes all pre and post exam paperwork, specific to the Department protocol for the exam being performed. This includes but not limited to: effectively uses patient identifiers each time, patient questionnaire, contrast administration documentation, medication reconciliation, post exam care

Operates radiology equipment using proper techniques and patient positioning to produce high quality images. Maintains radiology equipment and troubleshoots service problems.

Expected to complete all annual in-service programs both online and on paper as established in UPHS and Department policies.

Performs quality assurance testing consistent with section protocols.

Prepares appropriate radiopharmaceuticals for use following procedure manual and records necessary data in computer for dose calculations and documentation

Receives, opens, logs and checks in all incoming packages and utilizes the computer system to document the information

Calculate, dispense and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients undergoing procedures in Nuclear Medicine.

Stays current with new technology and procedures consistent with section protocols.

Practices radiation safety guidelines, following the ALARA concept, ensuring radiation exposure does not exceed those defined by Federal/State agencies.

Cleans room and changes linen after completion of each procedure.

Notifies Radiologist of all emergent imaging that needs to be read

Administers radiopharmaceutical agents, practicing safe handling and verifying patient identity by at least name and date of birth, documenting in the computer system

Follows NRC, State DEP and TJC when dealing with all radioactive material used in Nuclear Medicine/PET

Responds to any need, issue, or concern of a patient while the patient is in their care. Takes care of the need and/or has the need addressed as needed.

Responds to emergency situations according to department/hospital procedures.

Greets patient, identifies self and interacts with patient to gain trust and ensure patient support. Explains procedures to the patient/family.

Works closely with the department manager and assumes supervisor responsibilities when necessary

Will participate in staff training of new team members as well as ongoing annual training.

Works with department manager and team to improve department efficiencies and quality, leading by example

Will be tasked with working to improve the patient experience while in the department

Responsible for careful use of Nuclear Medicine imaging systems, computers and supportive supplies Supervises NM technologists and students when assigned to the NM department

Collaborates with technologists and physician to provide quality patient care, assisting in research projects as requested by the Division.

Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies and procedures

Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity and health system organization.

Education/Experience:

Graduate of an Accredited Radiologic Technology program in Radiology Sciences/Nuclear Medicine required.

Minimum 2 years experience preferred.

Credentials:

ARRT (N) or CNMT Certification Required.

BLS CPR Required.
