Our Client, a leader in the manufacturing industry, has an immediate need for Materials Research Technician. The position is located east of Pittsburgh, PA. This is a full time permanent position. Ideal candidates must have 0-3 years of experience with assembly/disassembly skills, mechanical skills and technical (database entries) skills. ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will be part of a pilot-scale production team focusing on manufacturing and testing advanced proprietary materials for the development of innovative technology.

  • Integral member of the production team responsible for equipment operation, maintenance and repair, and recording and documenting results and observations systematically and completely in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
  • Operation of production equipment including, but not limited to, powder batching and mixing equipment, powder process equipment (milling and spray drying), forming equipment (die presses), furnaces, kilns, and machining equipment.
  • Manufacture powders and components and prepare and test samples using laboratory analytical equipment consisting of LECO chemical analysis, viscometers, pH measurements, density measurements, powder particle size and surface area analysis, sample polishing, microscopy.
  • Operation of overhead cranes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment as needed.
  • Ensure the safety of employees and equipment. Become knowledgeable about company EHS standards, protocols and tools.

QualificationsTechnical Skills:
  • 0-3 years experience
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Strong communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills: MS Outlook (email), MS Excel (data entry), MS Access or other database (data entry)
Education:
  • Minimum High school diploma, GED, trade school degree in mechanical/electrical
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a science related discipline - preferred
Special Instructions:
  • Must have the ability to work in relatively noisy conditions with appropriate hearing PPE
  • Capability to work processes involving dust generation with the wearing of appropriate dust masks or power air purifying respirators (PAPR)
  • Able to work a 12 hour rotating day and evening shift schedule (5am- 5pm)
