  • • Graduated from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences approved Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician program AS or BS AND
  • • Possess or is eligible to take exam for the MLS or MLT certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent nationally recognized medical technologist/technician certification or categorical certification in medical laboratory science.
  • • A minimum of one (1) year experience within the last three (3) years
  • • Proof of TB Test, within the past year
  • • Proof of Covid Vaccination, if available

Medical Technologist/Technician Preferred Qualification

  • • 2-3 years experience in an acute care setting
  • • Experience in multiple laboratory sections
  • • Experience working independently with complex specimens preferred

Responsibilities:HCA Solutions is currently seeking qualified Medical Technologist for the VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA.

Positions are full time, contract, with a base year with extension possible up to five years. Facility needs Medical Technologist Generalists (Chemistry experience, preferred)

Day Shift - 8am-4:30 PM

JOB DUTIES:

  • • Accessions clinical pathology specimens
  • • Principal responsibilities involve performing testing on blood and body fluids in Chemistry primarily but if needed in Microbiology, Hematology or Blood Bank, VA will request specific specialty
  • • Knowledge of appropriate medical laboratory testing procedures.
  • • Knowledge of standard laboratory safety practices.
  • • Skill in the maintenance of laboratory equipment and calibration of diagnostic equipment.
  • • Ability to prepare and maintain required records and reports.
  • • Ability to train and supervise subordinate laboratory or clinic personnel.

Examples of Work

  • • Collects, cultivates, isolates, identifies and analyzes specimens; cuts, stains and mounts tissue sections for microscopic analysis; and groups, types and cross-matches blood donors and recipients to assure compatibility.
  • • Reviews the testing activities of subordinate laboratory or clinic personnel by assisting in test problem resolution, ensuring that quality control standards are met and maintained, and assisting with equipment maintenance.
  • • Performs required maintenance and calibration of equipment.
  • • Maintains required state and federal documentation and prepares final reports.
  • • Conducts appropriate clinical test preparation and processing procedures and microscopic analysis of test results.
  • • Prepares and sends specimens to reference laboratories as necessary.
  • • Inventories and orders supplies.
