The Payroll Assistant will support the Payroll Unit of the Human Resources team within the Managing Director's Office (MDO) Administrative Services Unit (ASU). This position will be responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll records.  This position reports to the Payroll Supervisor.Essential FunctionsDuties include, but are not limited to:Review and process bi-weekly timesheets and/or timecards for accuracy and completeness.Proof payroll documents and identify and resolve discrepanciesEffectively communicate and explain employee payroll and leave informationLearn the use of appropriate computer applications and related software pertaining to the processing of a departmental payrollAnswer frequently asked questions from employees relative to standard payroll policiesReview sick leave documentation and records to determine violations of sick leave policyAssist with bi-weekly timecard auditsRun various reports – funeral leave, sick leave, and Assignment Time InformationUpdate payroll spreadsheetsEnter Oracle transactions related to supervisor changesAssist with employment verificationsAssist with paycheck distributionAssist Payroll Supervisor on a variety of special projectsPerforms other duties as requiredCompetencies, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge in Oracle database management systemKnowledge in payroll softwareAbility to prioritize and organize workload, multi-task, adapts quickly to change, and deliver under the pressure of deadlinesAbility to manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptionsStrong organizational skills and attention to detailStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsFlexibility to both work independently and as part of a teamStrong working knowledge in Microsoft Office SuiteStrong interpersonal skills with the capacity to collaborate across diverse teams and city departmentsStrong communication and time management skillsTyping and data entry skills requiredThe ability to understand and answer questions of the complete employee handbook and Administration Board Rules.Work-LifeWorking hours are generally 37.5 hours per week. Our team is currently hybrid with both virtual and in-office days.
