This position is part of PWD’s Apprenticeship Program.  Each apprenticeship starts with a 6-month period of temporary employment.  During this time, apprentices receive on-the-job and classroom training from experienced technicians.  Upon successful completion of the temporary employment period, the apprentice will become eligible to promote a permanent Civil Service title (Public Works Maintenance Trainee – 7H02).Essential FunctionsAssists in repair and maintenance of electronics and instrumentation equipmentAttends training to learn technical processes and manufacturer specificationsTakes measurements and makes adjustments to equipmentLearns to read schematics and drawings for installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipmentLearns to program PLCs, use proper tools and metering, etc.Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesBasic knowledge of electricity, electronics, or instrumentation such as that provided by a pre-apprenticeship, work-readiness, or vocational school programFamiliarity with the proper use of hand tools, metering equipment, or standard computer softwareBasic knowledge of mathematics up to first year algebraAbility to read and write English
