Our Client, a leader in the manufacturing industry, has an immediate need for Research and Development Technician. The position is located east of Pittsburgh, PA. This is a full time permanent position. Ideal candidates must have 3+ years of experience performing any mechanical/electrical skills (assembly, disassembly, interpretation of drawings, electrical troubleshooting, data reporting, crane/fork operation, etc.). ResponsibilitiesThe Research & Development Technician will be part of a team developing new technologies related to aluminum production in electrolytic cells of various scales. This requires a diverse set of skills to be able to build and operate the test cells used in experiments, along with maintaining records of observations, results, and data for each experiment. This team consists of individuals of diverse backgrounds and expertise, and includes scientists, engineers, and technicians.

  • Construction of test cells, including: following safe work instructions and dimensional drawings, task and inventory organization, verification of work, and creation of build reports.
  • Autopsy of test cells, including: methodical disassembly of cell, autopsy report creation, and mass balance tracking.
  • Interaction with molten materials (sampling, transferring, etc.).
  • Organization and tracking of test samples with associated results.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting (multimeter, oscilloscope).
  • Interpretation of mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Basic modification of mechanical and electrical drawings and designs.
  • Capturing and organizing test data into reports and presenting to others on the team.
  • Complete tasks in noisy conditions and around equipment where fumes, dust, and chemicals exist (will be required to wear respirator for certain tasks).
  • Conduct work safely and in line with company’s policies and procedures.
  • Perform work in crouching, kneeling, and stooping positions.
  • Operation of cranes and fork trucks.
QualificationsTechnical Skills:
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Ppt)
  • Experience with basic hand tool usage (drills, saws, etc.)
  • 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience operating hand tools and machining equipment (band saw, EDM, drill press, etc.) - preferred
  • Experience with data analysis software (JMP, OSISoft PI, etc.) - preferred
  • Shift - 5am - 5pm. 2/2/3 schedule (2 on,2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on , 3 off, 2 on, etc.)
Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent -required
  • Bachelors degree in Science/Engineering related discipline or relevant vocational certification (welding, electrical, carpentry, machining/fabrication) - preferred
