A Pennsylvania state agency located in Philadelphia, PA is looking for a Software Engineer for a 12 month contract.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of three (3) years full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience writing software

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks (Vue.js or React preferred)
  • Strong foundation in web fundamentals - JavaScript, HTML, and CSS Including responsive design techniques and front-end frameworks (Foundation, Bulma, etc)
  • Experience building modern client-side web interfaces
  • Knowledge of PHP
  • Experience coding for a CMS (WordPress strongly preferred)
  • Experience using Git, or similar version control systems
  • Experience with SQL, or other relational database usage
  • Experience working with REST APIs
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn, Amazon Web Services
  • Especially strong candidates will have: Experience using translation frameworks (vue-i18n, for example)

Responsibilities

  • Build new features and reusable components for phila.gov, with a focus on the front-end.
  • We use: JavaScript (Vue.js, jQuery), PHP, Docker, AWS, and WordPress.
  • Work closely with a cross-functional team, including other developers, to ensure deliverables meet design, content, and UX standards.
  • Ensure the solutions you create meet web standard best practices, accessibility guidelines and language access requirements.
  • Collaborate with non-technical colleagues on new features.
  • Address bug fixes as needed and consider the maintainability of code.
  • Build reusable, testable, and efficient code.
  • Implement modern development techniques.
  • As a Software Engineer, you will help to expand the phila.gov web presence, following the latest standards in security, design principles, and accessibility.
  • Your focus will be on the front-end of phila.gov, where you write new components, and rewrite and replace older technology.
  • You'll be an expert in your discipline, working closely with a cross-functional team of designers, software engineers, and User Experience (UX) professionals to amplify the web presence for phila.gov.
  • You will work to build accessibility and language access features to the framework.
  • Your work will help residents find what they are looking for quickly and easily.
  • You'll help create new features, build out new infrastructure, and new workflows
