Specimen Coordinator

UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a full-time Specimen Coordinator to join the Automated Testing Lab team! This individual will work a daylight shift schedule of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday,The lab at Children's is family-focused, and team-oriented and takes great pride in what they do for the children and their families. Demonstrates knowledge of specimen collection requirements and shipping protocols for outside laboratories; facilitates specimen handling and shipping related to research or study protocols.

Demonstrates knowledge of specimen packaging and transport requirements; maintains required biohazard shipping certification.

Follows regulatory and departmental requirements and procedures for identifying laboratories of reference testing and dispatch of specimens; maintains accurate records of requests and reports.

Orders and accessions tests in the laboratory information system; enters and retrieves results as required; maintains department databases or electronic files as required.

Interacts with laboratory customers and outside reference laboratories courteously and professionally; responds to telephone inquiries promptly.

Monitors and maintains supplies for those functions for which the position is responsible; cost-effectively uses materials.

Monitors and maintains laboratory specimen storage systems, ie. refrigerators, and freezers. Maintains records and retrieves specimens as requested.

Demonstrates independent judgment and recognizes priorities to accommodate department needs and acceptance of appropriate authority.

Bachelor's Degree.

1 year of laboratory experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

Act 33 with renewal

Act 34 with renewal

Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
