Description: Job Title: Specialist, Mechanical EngineeringJob Code: SAS20211970-71194Job Location: Bristol, PAJob Description: Independent Mechanical Electronic Packaging of Avionics equipment for an aerospace environment. Responsible for the design, layout, testing and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices or systems. Prepares design specifications, analysis and recommendations for presentation and approval. Analyzes mechanical requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints. Investigates solutions to product or process problems. Consolidates results of mechanical design elements for assigned projects. Conducts investigations involving the origination or modification of material, component or process specifications or requirements. Performs product development activities including drawing board layout and interpretation/implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements. Essential Functions: Develop Clean-Sheet avionics equipment designs for aerospace environments (thermal, altitude, vibration, shock, humidity, corrosion, EMI shielding, etc.) with design for manufacturing considered through all phases of the process

Develop design documentation that includes drawings, specifications and data items that meet customer and military specifications

Directly interface with members of the product development team to produce high quality/dependable products. Members impacted by mechanical design include: Electrical Engineering, Test Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Systems Engineering, Safety Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Verification Engineering, PCB Design, and Management teams

Lead design modifications for existing products, frequently driven by vendor or manufacturing requested changes or component obsolescence

Represent mechanical engineering at all customer meetings: SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR and TIMs

Conduct tolerance analysis on piece parts and assemblies to ensure proper fit in all instances

Conduct or evaluate thermal, dynamic and static stress analysis to ensure changes meet original design requirements

Drive continuous product improvement by interfacing with vendors/suppliers to optimize design and minimize cost

Generate White papers to document investigation findings and present information to IPT and customer

Supports Production and Service Station teams with troubleshooting methods for pre-delivery and field return products. Leads the generation of root cause corrective actions when failure analysis requires mechanical engineering support

Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.

Qualifications:

CAD Proficiency using tools such as Solidworks

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience or a Graduate Degree (MS/PhD) and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience

Preferred Additional Skills:

Electronic packaging experience for aviation or space environments

Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA) experience

Proficiency with ASME Y14.5, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards

Experience with machined part design

Experience with plastic and/or sheet metal part design

Experience conducting basic structural, thermal, dynamic analysis with analysis tools such as SOLIDWORKS Simulation, ANSYS Workbench, FEMAP, Nastran, Mathcad, etc.

Experience with EVMS cost and schedule practices

Additive manufacturing and part optimization experience a plus
