Job DescriptionGroup/Division Summary: CCG/Research and Safety Market Division North America and Emerging MarketsPosition Summary: The Sr. Director, Corporate Counsel, Research and Safety Market Division (RSD), will serve as the lead counsel and member of the Executive Leadership Team for RSD North America. The successful candidate will provide the business with effective advice and counsel on divisional strategies, commercial risk, compliance, and regulatory matters; lead the legal function and coordinate the work of outside counsel; be in charge of a wide range of legal matters impacting the commercial operations of the business, with particular focus on general commercial contracting, process improvements, and commercial strategy; be looked to for developing, implementing and leading appropriate business processes, templates, and tools to support business operations, including the utilization of corporate wide contract life-cycle management tools and bringing to bear available COE/shared service resources.The Sr. Director, Corporate Counsel, will work closely with business functional colleagues, including but not limited to Sales, Global Trade Compliance, Quality, Procurement, EHS, and Regulatory, as well as other members of the Global Thermo Fisher legal department, to facilitate business transactions and handle legal compliance matters and requests for the RSD business.Key Responsibilities: Assume ultimate responsibility for ensuring that RSD conducts business in compliance with federal, state, local and international laws.

Collaborate as a business partner, anticipate potential needs and drive solutions for a range of legal and business issues.

Lead a team of legal professionals with a ride range of experience levels.

Negotiate complex contracts in accordance with organizational and departmental policies and procedures, including distribution agreements, supply agreements, and ecommerce agreements.

Advise and counsel on matters related to product marketing and promotional initiatives within the legal parameters around data privacy and healthcare industry.

Liaise with other relevant functions throughout the business, such as purchasing, accounting, sales and marketing.

Develop and implement standard business processes to streamline commercial contracting, including engagement with internal partner functions and the Global Thermo Fisher Scientific Legal function on implementation of contract lifecycle tools and the utilization of share service resources.

Implement and handle mechanisms (including leverage of other internal company resources) to ensure visibility and understanding of new legal and/or business risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Educate and train employees on their obligations under the company Code of Conduct, legal parameters, and healthcare compliance.

Qualifications: Juris Doctorate required, and admission to a state Bar.

At least 10 years of commercial contracts and business Legal experience. Mix of law firm and inhouse experience a plus.

Broad range of experience working in the healthcare, medical device, or pharmaceutical industry or similar regulated environment.

Experience in healthcare legal, regulatory and compliance areas.

Ability to translate legal theory into applied business success.

Strong negotiation abilities and business sense.

Customer centric and solutions-oriented approach in supporting internal clients while protecting the best interest of the company.

Experience developing, driving and implementing legal solutions.

Ability to deliver strong results with limited resources, under tight schedules and with a high degree of accuracy.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

Teammate capable of participating within cross-functional project teams to meet key achievements.

Project and process management capabilities and experience with an understanding of commercial and financial implications of the strategy development process.

Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication and presentation styles.

Strong work ethic with ability to work independently.
