Vacancy expired!

This is full performance/journey level stationary engineering work operating and

maintaining high-tonnage pressurized boiler and chiller systems and related components

in a large physical plant facility. Employees in this class on an assigned shift monitors

the systems’ automation, checking and adjusting temperature and pressure readings

and maintaining refrigerant, chemical and water levels in the systems. Work includes

touring the physical plant facilities to inspect and to repair defective components. Work is

performed under the supervision of a technical superior and involves some disagreeable

aspects and light physical effort.Essential FunctionsOperates and maintains high-tonnage pressurized boiler and chiller systems and related components; monitors the systems’ automation; checks and adjusts temperature and pressure readings; maintains appropriate refrigerant, chemical and water levels in the systems; tests for toxicity in water levels; ensures safety and efficient operation of the systems.Tours physical plant facility to inspect and to repair defective components; troubleshoots system failures; repairs or replaces malfunctioning system components such as, but not limited to, flow switches, pumps, steam traps, valves, balancing balls, fans, belts, worn-out boiler tubes, compressors and condensers.Performs scheduled maintenance; repacks valves; cleans boiler tubes and chiller towers; lubricates pumps; aligns inlet and out valves, records readings.Perform related work as requiredCompetencies, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge Ofthe methods, materials, tools and practices used in operating and maintaining high-tonnage pressurized boiler and chiller systems and related components in a large physical plant facility.the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the operation and maintenance of high-tonnage pressured boiler and chiller systems and related components in a large physical power plant facility.heating, ventilating, and refrigeration systemscomputerized control systemsautomated malfunctioning detection systemregulatory requirements of Federal Clean Air Act 1990, Title 3 of Philadelphia Code (Air Management Code of 1995)ABILITY TO:operate and maintain high-tonnage pressurized boiler and chiller systems and related components in a large physical plant facility.read and record meter and gauge readings and to maintain accurate records of boilers, chillers and support equipment operation maintenancemonitor automated system operation and detect malfunctionread electrical and mechanical schematics and use testing equipmentunderstand and follow oral and written instructionWork-LifeThis is shift work.
