Job Description

Performs entry level escort, announcement, and ceremonial work in a court of law to ensure courtroom decorum, compliance to courtroom procedures, and the facilitation of overall court functioning during legal activities. An employee in this class announces the opening of court and performs various duties which facilitate courtroom proceedings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Prepares the courtroom and general assembly room prior to proceedings.
  • Opens court by reciting standard announcements.
  • Maintains order in the courtroom at all times.
  • Swears in defendants.
  • Maintains and accounts for all case files listed for trial.
  • Maintains a daily total sheet for all case files.
  • Provides limited courtroom security.
  • Checks bags and packages of persons entering the courtroom.
  • Verifies emergency phones are working.
  • Ensures that all forms, subpoenas, payment plans, and orders issued by the presiding judge or hearing officer are complete.
  • Locks all courtrooms when not staffed.
  • Ensures that all cases are properly signed, priced, and adjudicated correctly.
  • Ensures that all relevant cases are disbursed to the Court Listings Department for disposition.
  • Assures the integrity of the proceedings.
  • Assures that all parties required for trial are present.
  • Maintains all necessary records as indicated by current courtroom procedures.
  • Escorts defendants to the disposition area, as needed.
  • Carries out the orders of the judge or hearing officer and assists with miscellaneous duties.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides general information pertaining to assigned function.
  • Replenishes computer printers, copier, or fax machine paper supplies.
  • Performs related work as required.

Qualifications

COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge ofeTIMSoperating system.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, methods, and equipment with particular reference to receiving and accounting for cash; business arithmetic; and the operation of validating and adding machines.
  • Ability to operate personal computers and validating machines.
  • Ability to make cash transactions rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to make rapid and accurate arithmetic computations.
  • Ability to learn and, within a reasonable time, apply rules and regulations pertaining to a variety of cash transactions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
  • Ability to apply rules and regulations pertaining to a variety of cash transactions.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

OR

  • Equivalent combinations of training and experience which provide the characteristics required to perform the essential functions of the class may substitute for those listed.

AND

  • City of Philadelphia residency required within (6) months of satisfactory completion of an employment orientation period.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions and work in the environment for the position.
  • Must pass the written examination.
  • Proof of Vaccination is required; requests for exemptions due to medical or religious reasons will be considered.

Additional Information

Salary Range: $44,953 - $49,265

Closing Date:December1, 2021

Successful candidate must be a City of Philadelphia residentwithin six month’s completion of a successful six-month employee orientation period.
