Position Summary & ObjectiveThe Welder will join, fabricate, and repair metal and other materials by applying appropriate techniques using various welding devices. Responsible for assembling or repairing damaged pieces of metal using machinery that emits high heat temperatures. Sets up components for welding according to specifications. ClassificationsProficient: Must possess qualifications, skills and experience of former classification.Novice: Able to use GTAW process.Proficient: Fully proficient with SMAW, FCAW and SAW.Competent: Qualified to perform SAW machine welds on both stainless and carbon steel.Competent: Able to set parameters to optimize the operation of the process(s).Competent: Able to produce high quality production welds.Competent: Capable of operating gas cutting, plasma, and air arc gouging process on all but the most challenging applications.Competent: Able to weld using larger wire sizes in many situations. Competent: Able to operate jib cranes and forklifts to facilitate positioning of weldments.Competent: Able to make roll and positioner set ups and assembly of simple, smaller weldments on same. Essential Functions Performed by the Position  Proficient in blueprint reading except geometric tolerancingFully proficient with FCAW and SMAWAble to set parameters to optimize the operation of the process(s)Able to produce high quality weldsGrinds parts as needed pew drawing and verbal instructionCapable of operating gas cutting and air arc gouging process on all but the most challenging applicationsAble to weld using larger wire sizes in many situationsKeeps equipment and work area clean and orderlyKeeps Supervisor informed of problems regarding work, piece, schedule, safety, etc. as they ariseAble to operate jib cranes and forklifts to facilitate positioning of weldmentsAble to make roll and positioner set ups and assembly of simple, smaller weldments on same
