Summary:

Our Lincoln, RI office is seeking a Senior Data Developer who will build high quality, scalable and resilient distributed systems that propel analytics platforms.

The Senior Data Developer position is responsible for building, managing and optimizing data pipelines that deliver curated data for key analytics consumers and initiatives. Solutions a wide variety of real-time, near real-time and batch analytical processes enabling business users to make critical decisions. Possesses a strong combination of IT, data governance, analytics, and creative skills. Plays a pivotal role in extending the next generation of the data ecosystem and operationalizing the most urgent data and analytics initiatives.

The ideal candidate has extensive AWS experience and experience with Python.

This position is eligible for fulltime remote work.

A starting annual salary between $78,789 - $152,129 based on level of previous experience. In addition, hired applicants will be eligible for the company's annual variable incentive paid based on company performance. Additional commission opportunities may apply to customer facing sales and service representatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Promote effective data management practices and encourage better understanding of data and analytics.
  • Define, develop, and execute strategies to implement and enhance an enterprise data ecosystem that supports organizational goals.
  • Interact with and gather requirements from key business stakeholders, IT experts and subject-matter experts to plan and data solutions that drive business value and support CIS objectives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and data consumers on analytical solutions and models to optimize them for data quality, security and governance and deploy them to production.
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen and understanding of insurance concepts.
  • Prioritize, scope and manage data engineering projects.
  • Discover, understand, and integrate new internal and external data sources, structures, and process pipelines.
  • Lead and engage in all activities associated with design, development, implementation, and support of ETL/ELT processes.
  • Implement data structures on a variety of databases and platforms, including data lakes, data warehouses, online caches and near-time systems, SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, Redshift, MongoDB, DynamoDB, and Snowflake.
  • Utilize various data modeling methodologies like relational 3rd normal form, star schema, snowflake schema, schema-on-read, data vault, etc. to design and implement data models.
  • Architect, implement, optimize and maintain reliable data pipelines from source acquisition to integration and consumption while guaranteeing compliance with data governance and data security requirements.
  • Use innovative and modern tools, techniques and architectures to automate the most common, repeatable and tedious data preparation and integration tasks to minimize manual and error-prone processes and improve productivity.
  • Create data migration applications that manage the content of the analytics ecosystem, including data lineage, metadata management, data quality, data patterns, data curation, etc. with a strong focus on reusability.
  • Partner streaming and batch processing mechanisms to provide timely but efficient to produce actionable insights and drive business value.
  • Support existing data migration applications running in production.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Work experience in data management disciplines including data integration, data modeling, optimization and data quality that is commensurate with job level.
  • Basic experience working with data discovery, analytics, visualization and business intelligence tools.
  • Extensive experience with AWS.
  • Strong experience with scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, and Linux.
  • Understanding of at least one formal programming language Java, or C.
  • Basic understanding of ETL/ELT platforms such a SSIS, DataStage or Informatica.
  • Thorough knowledge of relational and non-relational database theory and structured query language (SQL).
  • Ability to design, build and optimize data pipelines, ETL processes, and data structures.
  • Demonstrated success integrating large, heterogeneous datasets and automating repetitive data preparation tasks.
  • Skilled working across multiple deployment environments including cloud, on-premises and hybrid.
  • Adept applying software engineering methodologies and DevOps principles to data pipelines to improve the communication, integration, reuse and automation of data flows across the organization.
  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative and logical problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly creative, collaborative, and able to communicate effectively with IT and business personnel.
  • Capacity to be productive when working independently or collaboratively.
  • Ability to effectively manage time to handle competing high priority projects.
