Come join us and help shape the future!This OpportunityWSP is currently initiating a search for 2 Bridge Inspection Team Leads to support our robust and growing Bridge Inspection Practice in the Southeast Region! This position will ideally be located in Columbia but could also work out of our offices in Charleston, SC, Greenville SC, Murells Inlet , SC, Mooresville, NC, or Raleigh, NC . This is an opportunity for a strong bridge inspection team lead to move into a high profile role with solid advancement opportunities and a chance to grow a strong team supporting bridge inspection projects in the district.The Team Leader shall use his/her education, licensure and relevant work experience to perform independent and complete evaluation of the condition, function and load carrying capacity of bridges and their individual components. These evaluations may form the basis of recommendations to bridge owners for repair, rehabilitation or replacement.Your ImpactDetermine well-defined methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction
Perform professional structural engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits
Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing construction safety and phasing plans, and updating infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients
Plan, schedule and perform bridge inspections in accordance with the requirements of specific Bridge Owners, but in all cases, in compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and the AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges
Perform engineering calculations on various bridge repair designs, bridge load ratings, and construction inspections
Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures to ensure work is completed in a correct manner
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Who You AreRequired QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
5-7 years of experience in bridge design and/or bridge inspection
NHI Course 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges Certificate
Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
Physically capable of performing field work including climbing ladders (40ft or less) and in close quarters, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately
Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Preferred QualificationsPE License in SC and/or NC
Familiarity with NCDOT WIGINS Software or SCDOT BIO
Additional FHWA/NHI Training - (130078) Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
Interest in Programming and/or experience with databases or data analytics
Experience using AutoCAD and/or Microstation software
Interest in UAS Drone flying
Comfortable working at Heights (40ft+) and interest in working on Ropes (obtaining SPRAT Certification)
Familiarity with or certifications in various NDT techniques
Experience with Inspecting Complex Bridges #LI-PJ1
