Description Robert Half is searching for an ambitious Controller to join a reputable Construction/Contractor company. The leadership position is responsible for an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Goose Creek, South Carolina area.What you get to do every day

Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports

Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time

Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis

Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed

Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation

Capable of handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties

Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management

Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet client expectations Requirements

High attention to detail and possesses excellent organizational and writing skills

Command of month end closings

Financial Statement experience

Proficiency in QuickBooks

Construction Accounting experience

Consolidated Financial Statements experience

Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

Excellent oral and written communications skills

Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus

Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment

BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

Ability to meet deadlines

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis

Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
