Job Summary

Aflac is looking for a Lead Product Owner with an agile mindset and product management skills to join our Group Voluntary Benefits Division, Product Owner Team. Lead Product Owner partners with delivery teams and fellow Product Owners to maximize the value delivered to the customers. They have end-to-end responsibility delivering business outcomes and technology transformations that will achieve customer, operational, and financial goals. Works closely with all team members involved including senior stakeholders, business leadership, security, product representatives, operations, delivery team, and, of course, customers and distribution partners.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Leads a team of Product Owners for large strategic initiatives
  • Works and collaborates with other Product Owners to identify and address cross-team dependencies and impacts
  • Represents customers and users primarily for creation of complex new products or programs.Performs job functions in a leadership capacity but is ready and able to engage at a tactical level when needed
  • Understands the needs of the domain and or business area acting as the voice of the customer (VoC).
  • Owns the service domain level product backlog. Responsible for refining the backlog (creating portfolio level work items and user stories) and prioritizing the backlog based on business value, feasibility, cost ramifications and other relevant factors. Provides guidance to Product Owners as needed.
  • Ensures service domain goals are on track. Accepts/Rejects finished features and/or user stories based on acceptance criteria and ensures goals are met. Proactively communicates progress, decisions, impediments, and risks with stakeholders.
  • Partners with customers and interacts with them on a regular basis. As a strategic thinker, partners with leaders (IT and business) on strategy and planning efforts for the program area.
  • Works with a diverse set of technical and non-technical stakeholders and creates the Vision and Outcome Based Roadmap for the program and can articulate these to the team and stakeholders. Assists the Product Owners and delivery teams with creating and aligning the Vision and Roadmap for their efforts.
  • Conducts market research into customer needs and emerging business opportunities. Includes facilitating customer advisory panels and focus groups to gain a better understanding of needs, product usage, and brand/user experiences.
  • Leverages industry best practices and publicly available competitive intelligence to help set business strategy; attends industry education and networking events; coordinates with partners on driving innovative solutions to meet Aflac's needs.
  • Tracks the progress of the teams towards the overall goal, ROI (Return on Investment) as well as relevant value related KPI's.
  • Focuses on continuous improvement towards a meaningful balance between customer needs, business objectives, resource utilization, and technical feasibility.
  • Performs other duties as required

Education & Experience Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Business Administration, Computer Science or related field
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)
  • Six or more years of experience in product ownership or product management or similar demonstrated experience
  • Must complete and receive certification in the 2.0 Product Owner Enablement program offered by Enterprise Agility Office (within the first year of hire for external candidates)
  • Five or more years in a senior, lead or supervisory capacity

Education & Experience Preferred
  • Certified Scale Agile Framework (SAFe), Large Scale Scrum (LeSS), Disciplined Agile Delivery (DAD)
  • Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), Pragmatic Product Management
  • Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner (A-CSPO)

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

• Is knowledgeable about the product and product domain and able to transfer ideas into valuable features.

• Demonstrated knowledge of product discovery practices including human-centered design, design thinking, brainstorming approaches, and advanced facilitation techniques.

• Strong functional/technical aptitude and ability to understand and discuss system architectural concepts, schedule tradeoffs, and assess new opportunities with delivery team members.

• Strong analytical and quantitative skills and is comfortable with data-driven decision making.
