Title : Technical Engineer

Location : Columbia

Duration : 12 Months with Possible Extension

Duties:
  • Responsible for the engineering of information system infrastructure.
  • Designs infrastructures including hardware, software, and various configurations.
  • Responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of operating systems.
  • Recognizes and troubleshoots problems with server hardware and applications software.
  • Evaluates new products, performs server problem resolution and assists in the development and documentation of technical standards and interface applications.
  • 35% Provides consultative support to facilitate design and to resolve design problems.
  • Installs and maintains information systems and performs preventative maintenance, performance tuning, and monitoring of the systems.
  • Performs configuration, installation, migration, maintenance, and administration.
  • Troubleshoots and analyzes hardware, networks, application, and storage related issues.
  • 30% Plans, coordinates, and implements server security measures.
  • Anticipates and mitigates potential issues through server or other connections to ensure the security of the system.
  • Provides strategic planning and participation for disaster recovery operations.
  • 25% Responsible for information system server planning, design and engineering.
  • Evaluates equipment specifications and process requirements to conceive a practical design.
  • Works with technical staff to anticipate future capacity needs.
  • Compiles and analyzes operational data and directs tests to establish standard for new designs or modifications to existing equipment, systems, or processes.
  • 5% Ensures compliance with audit requirements.
  • Addresses vulnerabilities within audit-mandated time frames.
  • Maintains effective security/backup recovery processes and systems.
  • 5% Maintains effective relationships with suppliers to ensure appropriate levels of support.
  • Plans large scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies.
  • Serves as a Cloud Operations Engineer with responsibilities to build, monitor, and manage the cloud infrastructure shared services.
  • Employee will also assist the Cloud Platform / Operations team as needed and requested by management.
  • Work with Cloud Infrastructure architect on how to properly build the cloud infrastructure.
  • Responsible for ensuring Cloud infrastructure meets service requirements.
  • Provide Operation Support for Cloud Services through monitoring, IR and Incident Resolution for Production applications and infrastructure deployed in the cloud environment.

Skills:

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with high availability data solutions and replication techniques.
  • Ability to take on projects, working within a cohesive team producing successful results and managing multiple projects and day to day activities.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and analyze hardware, networks, application, and storage related issues.
  • Experience managing servers in a large corporate environment, including security, policy compliance, and exception processes.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues with non-technical people.
  • Strong understanding of technical problems and solutions in relation to the current, as well as the future business environment.
  • High level of understanding of organization business systems and processes as well as industry-wide requirements.

Required Software and Tools:
  • Advanced understanding of relevant/related server hardware and software.

Work Environment:
  • Fast paced, multi-platformed environment which may require action and response 24X7 to support the technical business needs of the customer.
  • Perform performance tuning, respond and escalate incidents to appropriate team when required, perform root cause analysis, create/update support documentation, assist with backup and recovery support for Cloud resources, execute disaster recovery(DR) procedures to support DR testing, support and monitor / report on compliance programs.
  • Responsible for managing infrastructure OS to ensure that OS meets the define service outcomes, configuration of virtual infrastructure, patch and update management, create and manage cloud templates that deliver defined service outcomes, capture document changes to templates including new service or variants, tag and review cloud infrastructure management details, manage capacity for virtual infrastructure environment, manage virtual networks and manage resiliency of applications.

Education:

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other job related degree.
  • or 4 years of job related work experience or 2 years of job related experience plus an associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other job related degree.

Required Experience:
  • 12 years information system infrastructure experience or other job related experience including 7 years systems engineering/administration experience.

Preferred Education:

Bachelor's degree Preferred Licenses and Certificates:
  • Any vendor certifications related to server or server based applications or Comptia A+, Network +, Security +, Appropriate Engineer Certification.

Preferred Licenses and Certificates:
  • Any vendor certifications related to AWS Cloud, Microsoft AZURE Cloud, Google Cloud, other Cloud service providers or Comptia A+, Network +, Security +, Appropriate Cloud Engineer Certification.
