Our Building Engineering team specializes in the planning, design, monitoring, and inspection of mechanical systems. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team. This internship offers an exciting opportunity to assist on a variety of projects across multiple sectors, including Defence, Data Centres, Space, Commercial, Hospitals, Highways, Rail & Metro, and Airports. You will help ensure compliance with industry and governmental standards while contributing to innovative solutions. In addition, you will have the opportunity to support the design of hyperscale and enterprise data centres, contributing to high-performance cooling and thermal management systems, including air- and liquid-cooled solutions, plant design, and mission-critical environments requiring continuous 24/7 operation. How You’ll Make a Difference:Assist in managing and designing heating, cooling, and ventilation demands, as well as energy-efficient HVAC systems using sustainable solutions to help reduce energy consumption, including cooling systems for high-density data centre environments.Support the evaluation and inspection of HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with standards with exposure to critical cooling system reliability, redundancy strategies (e.g. N+1, 2N), and plant resilience.Help develop proposals, progress reports, and technical findings for clients and stakeholders including inputs into data centre cooling strategies, water and energy use considerations, and system performance assumptions.Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams to contribute to achieving project objectives, supporting integrated design of data halls, plantrooms, cooling infrastructure, and utility distribution within campus-scale developments.Support the development of mechanical design basis assumptions, including cooling loads, heat rejection strategies, air management, and emerging liquid cooling requirements for high-performance computing (HPC) and AI workloads.Assist in evaluating different cooling approaches (e.g. air-cooled, chilled water, hybrid and liquid cooling systems) and their impact on efficiency, scalability, and site infrastructure. What Our Summer Internship Program Offers12-week paid internship (mid-November to mid-February)Real project experience: Contribute to meaningful work and apply your university learning to real-world projects from day one.Exposure to iconic projects: Be part of projects that help shape communities, cities and infrastructure across Australia and New Zealand.AECOM Summer Series: Connect with senior leaders from across our business through an exclusive program of presentations providing insight into different career pathways and areas of expertise.Work alongside technical experts: Work alongside graduates, technical experts, and industry leaders.Be part of a global business: Experience the benefits of working for a global consultancy, with opportunities to collaborate across teams, markets and geographies.Pathway to graduate employment: Successful interns may be considered for future graduate opportunities, providing a direct pathway into AECOM's Graduate Program.
