Job Description

The Assistant Principal of Instruction - STEM (Instructional Coach) will work with the school leader to actualize the school’s vision. In addition to driving the vision for pedagogy that drives student achievement, theAssistant Principal of Instructioncreates and manages strong academic systems and structures to support teachers in executing this vision to meet our school goals. The Assistant Principalof Instruction also helps to design professional development for our teachers, guiding them to become strong classroom managers and competent instructional leaders in their classrooms. The primary components of the job include:

  • Setting high, but achievable standards for student achievement
  • Coaching and managing teaching performance
  • Analyzing student data and facilitating next steps to ensure continued achievement
  • Works with Principal to manage family partnership and involvement
  • Supports culture and discipline
  • Success in this role will be measured by grade-level student achievement and ability to align priorities, instruction, and grade-level culture to the school-wide vision, mission and values

Key Responsibilities:

Works with Principal to manage academic systems for the teaching staff on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis

  • Communicate and manage the school year academic dates calendar, including internal and external deadlines to all stakeholders
  • Audit progress reports and report cards to ensure that each report has the appropriate number of grades and comments
  • Work with Principal to create and print meaningful weekly reports for each grade level
  • Support the Principal in creating instructional reports

Formalize instructional systems and instructional alignment across content areas

  • Create professional development for grade- and subject-specific instruction for teachers
  • Develop long-term plans; ensure that long-term plans and assessments are vertically aligned in terms of rigor

Design and support professional development efforts

  • In collaboration with the Principal, help create the yearly Professional DevelopmentOverview
  • Assess school-wide and group-based (ex: co-teacher, grade level, veteran) instructional needs based on student achievement data to determine professional development needs
  • Collaborate with the Principal and staff to plan differentiated summer professional development based on teacher needs and school goals starting in year two
  • Coordinate tracked Professional Developmentofferings during the school year
  • Coordinate external partnerships by developing session objectives and outcomes in advance with external trainers and the school leader
  • Develop and lead professional development for teaching fellows throughout the year

Supports school-wide discipline plan and efforts

  • Model effective classroom management techniques
  • Support teachers with implementing behavior management
  • Work with students, families, and teachers to issue logical consequences for behavior and follows-up

Support staff culture

  • Backwards plan staff culture supports with leadership team and admin team

Manage Teachers

  • Hold One-on-One's (O3s) with all direct reports once each week
  • When working with teaching fellows, develop a trajectory of progress based on the KIPP Framework for Excellent Teaching

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Tennessee Teacher License
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Four years of successful full-time teaching experience serving in a similar student population
  • Content Expert
  • Excellent organizational, planning and implementation skills
  • Relentless results-orientation and strong sense of purpose
  • Ability to establish relationships and communicate effectively with multiple constituencies
  • Reflective and able to execute in an efficient and effective manner with managers, peers and support personnel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Administrator License
  • Master's degree
  • Minimum of three years of Instructional Leadership (coaching teachers, leading professional development, performancemanagement)

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience, degree attainment, and credentials. A competitive benefits package will also be offered.

ADA Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing and actively observing teachers
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Must be able to facilitate classroom transitions by walking through hallways and up and down stairs with students
