Join us.General Summary:The Digital Incubator & Advanced Analytics team is an inter-disciplinary team of Digital strategist, Product Innovators, Data Scientists and technical geeks. We provide digital thought leadership to inform our business strategies and incubate next-gen cloud-based digital and AI offerings. We drive ideas from concept to launch in a rapid fashion, adopting a scientific experimentation-based approach to AI products/solutions.Part strategist, part product innovator, part entrepreneur – you will be responsible for generating, framing and pitching new ideas / opportunities. You will find creative ways to assemble/ build these digital capabilities and solutions that can drive strategic growth and lower operating cost structures for Unum. You will be actively sought to solve highly ambiguous and complex problems at the intersection of business and AI.As part of the Applied AI team within Unum, you will play a critical role in transforming Unum from a traditional insurance player to a leading AI first digital insurance company with accountability for:

Own and drive strategic AI based products/solutions

Influence senior executives around strategies and investments related to AI

Lead a matrixed team of data scientists, ML Engineers, Data Engineers with cross- discipline partnerships with other functional areas across Finance, Marketing, Operations

Contribute to evangelizing AI and increasing data and AI literacy across Unum

You will partner closely with Unum business leaders, IT Delivery, Transformation leadership, and Unum IT architecture to lead the development of AI based digital products.This role will have direct management responsibilities for a team of highly technical Data Scientists along with other IT specialist positions.Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Apply first principles thinking to conduct market research, validate viability, shape ideas and drive inception to launch

Develop product vision, solution & roadmap and socialize with key business stakeholders and executive leadership.

Drive creative solutioning by assessing internal /external capabilities and considering build vs buy vs assemble vs partner considerations.

Operate nimbly with a sense of urgency to quickly pivot as we take ideas from POC à Pilot à MVP

Lead a cross-functional, cross-disciplinary teams to build AI first digital products/ solutions/ capabilities - team of Data Science and Information Technology professionals working within agile/infrastructure or operations teams, working across a wide range of environments, supporting the analysis, development, design, creation, modification and testing of Unum data analytics and machine learning software and related applications

Develop operating model for newer capabilities (as needed) and partner with other change and delivery teams to integrate and operationalize AI into business processes and other digital assets to deliver business value as we scale these solutions

Develop, coach and engage people to higher levels of performance.

Understands and is an advocate of following MLOps standards, practices and processes.

Job Specifications

Background in CS-Math /Data Science/ Operational research

3-5 years of experience in designing and building scaled AI/ML products/ capabilities e.g. Virtual agents, Predictive systems, cognitive process automation, Computer vision applications, Knowledge virtualization and 7+ years of data science and management experience.

Excellent knowledge of computer programming, software engineering, DevOps / MLOps practices

Understanding of healthcare industry is a plus

Experience with AI Toolset like Sagemaker, TensorFlow, H2O

Strategic innovator with demonstrated experience of pushing the boundaries & reimagining the art of possible

Experience bridging the divide between the theoretical and the applied. Proven expertise in communicating that vision and experience to non-technical stakeholders.

Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.$133,500.00-$261,000.00Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
