OverviewDepartment Assistant Full time, 80 hours per period, Day Shift Position Summary: Performs a wide range of clerical and administrative duties for a specific department or physician practice. Requires clerical training or experience and some knowledge of the unit's operational procedures. May perform departmental support functions such as processing payroll, enter data into information systems, or other duties similar in nature. Type correspondence, reports, memoranda, letters and special projects as requested.
Acts as receptionist, answers telephones, route callers, takes messages and provides routine information to callers and patients.
Organize and check patient charts daily to ensure compliance.
May perform medical transcription service.
Receives mail and routes appropriately.
Corresponds with patients of the practice via mail or phone to supply information at physician’s request.
Serves as inter-departmental communication resource.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Collaborate with the patient, physician and other care team members as part of a team based approach to overall patient care.
QualificationsMinimum Education: None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED. Minimum Experience: One (1) to two (2) years clerical/administrative experience. Experience using word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (Excel) and presentation (PowerPoint) software.
