Under the direct supervision of the manager and/or shift charge nurse performs general clerical and communication duties in accordance with hospital policy, procedures, and standard of care. Is responsible for observing monitors for cardiac rhythms and CareView bed monitors and reports alterations in pattern to the nurse. Reports episodes of patients attempting to get up unassisted to nursing staff as noted via the CareView monitor. Uses the nurse call system to communicate with patients, families, and staff.Essential Functions Observes cardiac monitors. Demonstrates competency in detecting cardiac rhythm changes and reports to the nurse immediately.Observes patients via CareView Monitoring System. Demonstrates competency in using the CareView monitor system.Cleans telemetry transmitters, lead wires, and SpO2 cables between patient use.Places batteries in telemetry transmitters.Prints telemetry rhythm strips, identifies cardiac rhythm, measures intervals and rate and places in the patient record upon initiation of telemetry, once per shift, or more often as necessary.Admits/discharges/transfers patient in telemetry system and CareView monitor system.Performs a variety of clerical/administrative duties including copying, faxing, and other duties as assigned by the charge nurse or manager (ie crash cart checks, preparation of admission folder, etc).Prepares and maintains medical records to include chart forms necessary for admissions, transfers, and discharges.Answers telephone and nurse call system promptly and courteously, takes accurate and complete messages, forwards, and answers inquiries as appropriate. Notifies nursing staff of patient needs communicated through the nurse call system.Performs hand-off to oncoming shift, detailing pertinent patient telemetry issues and patients at high risk for fall.Tests equipment for proper working order. Reports equipment problems to the appropriate person.Demonstrates the ability to remain calm and focused in a stressful and fast-paced environment.Communicates effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, families, and guests.Demonstrates the ability to multi-task while focusing on telemetry monitors and CareView monitors.Assists with orientation of others as directed.Assists in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized environment.Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Associates degree preferred.

Previous Hospital experience preferred.

BLS Certification acquired or obtained within 6 months of hire.

Completion of a course in medical terminology preferred.Minimum Work Experience

Previous healthcare experience as a CNT/LPN/EMT/EMT-P preferred.Required Skills

Must possess critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Must possess good computer skills and must be able to remain professional with a positive attitude under stressful conditions and multiple demands.

Must be able to use a multi-line phone system as well as learn to use a nurse/patient communication system.

Medical clerical experience and medical terminology preferred.

Experience in monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms preferred.
