Supports daily operations of all activities that relate to the reprocessing of reusable instrumentation, including, but not limited to decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes within all set professional standards and regulations, as well as daily monitoring and recording conditions of the sterilization process. They also perform all duties of a full time mentor to new staff. In addition to other duties as assigned.

Advanced ability to hand clean and inspect all instruments, containers, and equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications, hospital safety policies, and regulatory guidelines to assure patient and employee protection

Cleans and leak tests flexible endoscopes according to the manufactures specifications and hospital policy

Wears protective attire and uses proper cleaning solutions while performing duties in the decontamination department

Advanced ability to accurately inspect and assemble instrument and specialty trays in a timely manner

Maintains biological and sterilization records for steam, ETO, Steris, Sterrad machines according to departmental procedures

Accurately operates all sterilization equipment to sterilize instruments according to department policy and manufacturer’s recommendations

Completes, prioritizes, and organizes case carts according to the daily schedule to comply with surgery start time

Assists all personnel in a positive manner to locate instrumentation needed for surgical procedures

Assists in the orientation process of new employees

Other duties as assigned by management

QualificationsRequired Education:

High School Diploma

40 hours Central Sterile Program through Purdue Central Service Technician Program within 6 months of employment if not nationally certified.

Required Licensure & Certifications:

Instrument Technician certification through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) within 24 months of employment or Was employed or otherwise contracted for services as a central service technician in a healthcare institution before January 1, 2017.

AND in addition to the above a second national Sterile Processing certification (Ex: Flexible Scope Technician, Instrument Specialist, etc.)

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Six months current Sterile Processing experience

Full-time mentor to new staff when needed

Basic computer skills and aptitude

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate Degree in related field

Two years current Sterile Processing experience

Entry level Outlook, Excel, Windows, and Word specific skills

Medical Terminology

Advanced ability to identify, assemble, decontaminate instrumentation

Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, health care environment.

Fast learner, detail oriented, sense of urgency when performing tasks.
