Provides first-level technical end-user hardware and software support for desktop computers and users throughout the organization. Responsible for working with departments and computer users in desktop computer needs, functionality, and support. Works closely with users to determine what desktop computer needs they may have, jointly find an appropriate solution, and work with them on installation and configuration. Assists with assigned projects. Knowledge - Requires thorough knowledge of current desktop computer operating systems, especially Windows; ability to set up and configure computers and printers in a network environment; knowledge of PC hardware components to maintain their utilization and functionality; knowledge and skills to support desktop printers, especially Lexmark, Xerox, and HP; knowledge and skills to support a broad range of desktop computer peripherals such as modems, storage devices, scanners, etc. Knowledge in a broad range of desktop computer applications with an emphasis on MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, desktop utility software, and desktop management tools; must be able to speak and write in a clear and understandable manner for internal/external relations; understand complex verbal or written instructions; requires good customer service/support skills. Knowledge ordinarily acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED plus 2 years of computer support experience.
