This position is instrumental in coordinating the collection, monitoring, analysis and reporting of environmental data at the Gahcho Kue Mine site. The position is also critical to the communication of departmental objectives and initiatives to site personnel. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to troubleshoot problems and lead a dynamic team of professionals. The ideal candidate is one who is committed to safe work practices and strives for zero harm above all else.Key responsibilities:Leading and developing a team of environmental technologistsSupervising and assisting in the execution of environmental site and field compliance programs.Ensuring the health and safety of site environmental staff, including seasonal department contractors & consultantsDeveloping control programs to reduce both safety and environmental hazards and accidents;Assisting in designing, preparing, implementing and maintaining the mine Environmental Management System;QA/QC of field sampling, analysis, chain of custody and shipping Sign off on field inspections/regulation reports; Identifying potential environmental risks and designing mitigation plans;Inspecting the various sites for environmental compliances and sign off on mitigation plans where required for investigations and accidents;Determines and designs contractor compliance standards for site in line with regulations;Maintaining current, clear and complete documentation, for reference purposes during environmental operations, including regulations and environmental policies;Working with cross-functional groups to maintain monitoring programs and environmental management;Coordinating and verifying work progress, as per the relevant specifications and company environmental systems;Ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations and operational projects and permitsEnsuring all environmental risks have been considered; andDelivering environmental advice, assistance and support to environmental staff and mine management.Acting head of the Environmental department on a as needed basis when the environmental superintendent is offsite.Working with indigenous partners and monitors on joint monitoring programs, including TEK monitoring work.Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, the role is based within the Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Training department and is in Band GBF7. This is a site based position with a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotation.
