Your role in the teamWe are seeking a highly skilled Microsoft SQL Engineer and Database Administrator to join our team. As a SQL Engineer specializing in Microsoft SQL Server, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining efficient and scalable SQL databases for critical systems.You will also play a crucial role in generating insightful reports and analytics using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or other relevant reporting tools. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand their requirements, optimize query performance, ensure data integrity and security, and provide valuable reports and visualizations.The ideal candidate is proficient in Microsoft SQL Server, has a strong understanding of database management systems, possesses excellent problem-solving and communication skills, and has experience in reporting and analytics.You will be responsible for:Responsibilities:Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including monitoring, backups, and data integrity checks, to ensure the ongoing health and reliability of databases.Collaborate with internal systems engineers and operational teams to understand database requirements and provide guidance on best practices for database sustainment.Optimize database performance by analysing query execution plans, indexing strategies, and implementing performance tuning techniques.Monitor Microsoft SQL Server performance metrics and proactively take actions to improve efficiency and scalability.Investigate and resolve database-related incidents and issues, providing timely support to minimize downtime and disruptions for COTS products.Implement and maintain data security measures, including access controls, authentication, and authorization mechanisms, to protect sensitive information stored in the databases.Stay updated with the latest database technologies, patches, and upgrades, and evaluate their suitability for integration into the COTS product databases.Collaborate with the infrastructure team to ensure the availability, scalability, and reliability of the database systems supporting the COTS products.Work closely with customers and end-users to gather feedback and insights, and implement improvements or enhancements to the database systems accordingly.Develop and maintain documentation related to database configuration, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting guides, ensuring comprehensive and up-to-date information.Mentor and develop other team members in database and service support.Respond to critical database incidents as required.
