Aerial Construction Technician - Jasper

JOB SUMMARY Under moderate supervision, build, repair and maintain HFC (hybrid fiber coax) plant and FTTH plant (Fiber to the Home) Work on a crew to construct outside plant Aerial/UG network infrastructure MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience Perform complex installations of cable in underground and/or overhead environments using the most recent company specifications and industry standards.Prepare underground system plant for repairs; including trenching, potholing, backfill, and repair or replacement of conduits, poles, risers, or pedestals.Perform investigation and repair of cut fiber optic cables or impairmentsDig trenches and fill ditches; bury cable; place cable in trenches and through conduit.Install equipment used to house HFC & FTTH equipment, ground plant, or place rod or wire to serve as a ground for future installations.Work with other Construction Technicians, in-house Technicians, and third-party contractors in performing their duties.Perform traffic control and/or flagging as necessary.Load and unload cable equipment and tools.Read system prints and place cable according to prints.Calculate signal losses from all cable lines and devices, using the signal level meter.Adhere to industry-specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.Know, understand, and follow company policies.Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge Ability to read, write and speak English Ability to use the following hand tools electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including gaffs, ladders, and fully loaded tool belts Ability to safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as gaffs, safety harnesses and ladders) within the maximum weight limitations of that equipment Ability to use personal computer and software applications Ability to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladder, (approx. 32 ft high and 90 pounds) Ability to climb poles using gaffs, hooks, and climbing belt as needed Ability to differentiate between different sizes, types, and colors of wires Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting Ability to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with the position (e.g. signal level meters, ohm meters, etc.) Ability to perform the job from high places (i.e. poles and roofs) Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time Ability to work with small components and wires to make cable connections Ability to use handheld communication devices and applications Ability to adhere to Local, Federal regulations and Company policies Ability to dig in all types of soil Ability to drive Company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner Ability to operate machinery used for underground/overhead cable installation Ability to prioritize and organize effectively Ability to read general system layouts from blueprints Ability to work independently and on a crew Knowledge of traditional fiber architectures, Fiber Plant maintenance Knowledge of Fusion splicers and related equipment Knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics Knowledge of company products and services Knowledge of the National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code and OSHA Required Education High School Diploma or equivalent work experienceValid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record within company-required standards Commercial Driver License - Class A Industry and vendor-specific certifications and training (NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E) preferred Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years 2+ years of construction work experience preferred PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge Utility/Electrical/Telecom knowledge or experience Preferred Education OSHA 10 Electrical Training NESC Communications 1910.268 Preferred Related Work Experience and Number of Years 1+ years of Utility/Electrical/Telecom WORKING CONDITIONS Work indoors in confined space, poorly ventilated areas such as attics, basements, crawlspaces and/or manholesExposure to dust, dirt, noise, insects, rodents, pets, and cleaning solutionsWork outdoors in all kinds of weather and at all times of the day or nightWork performed near power lines and electricityWork performed at various heights above ground on telephone/power polesWork and travel whenever required and in inclement weather Mandatory travel on a weekly basis when required EFR126 2023-26793 2023 Here, employees don’t just have jobs, they build careers.
