Assists the nurse manager in the achievement of the unit administrative, financial, clinical research and strategic goals.Key FunctionsTransformational Leadership:Implements and monitors unit budget to respond in a cost effective manner to changing patient, staff and multidisciplinary team requirements and strengthen unit.Assist in pr4eparation and delivery of unit staffing plans considering skill mix, staff and patient care requirements. Analyzes plans for compliance with established budget.Assures continuity of care as patients' transition across the continuum through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services.Practice with autonomy within the scope of professional nursing.Structural Empowerment:Helps manage human resource activities for all clinical and clerical staff including recruitment, retention, supervision evaluation and productivity.Participates in identifying, recruiting, developing and retaining top talent through effective communication, performance management, career counseling, and conflict resolution.Participates as active member in shared governance model at unit and institutional level.Accountable for identifying barriers to patient car and solutions.Active in developing strong relationships and partnerships within and across the organizational to improve patient outcomes.Exemplary Professional Practice:Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area.Effectively and consistently functional in related roles as required: i.e. charge nurse, clinical coach, preceptor, protocol manager.Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and other services.Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.Provide direct care to patients approximately 50% of the time.New Knowledge, Innovation, and Improvement:Actively participates in, assists and/or leads unit, divisional and/or institutional improvement projects.
