Job Summary

Provides prescribed medical treatment to children in the Children program, adults in Meadows Assistance living Program and the Day Service DAHS Program. Provides emergency first aid to all MRDC employees. Provides emergency care to clients in the Day Hab Program.

Essential Job Duties

1. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.

2. Administers first dosage of new medications and observes for side effects.

3. Works in cooperation with visiting professionals, i.e., therapists, pharmacist, ophthalmologist, and psychiatrist.

4. Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies Director, and physician of client condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents, as indicated.

5. Completes Medication Administration Records monthly as scheduled with cycle fill at least 2-3 days before new month begins.

6. Completes Medication Administration Records for all new medications, medication changes, and dosage changes as orders are received.

7. Updates and maintains medication orders on the Consolidated Physician’s Orders and progress note for each client as orders are received.

8. Completes with RN delegations to Group Home staff, as indicated.

9. Ensures that all clients records have current Consolidated Physicians Orders, Doctor’s Orders, MAR’s, and Medicaid Cards.

10. Provides Special Needs Health Services Inservices to all Group Home staff when new diagnoses, treatments, therapies, or medications are ordered.

11. Orders medications from pharmacy, as indicated or instruct Medical Assistance staff person to complete this task.

12. Provides an RN assessment to each client as needed. Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, weights, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of client.

13. Triage sick client each day with hands on or via telephone and provide nursing instruction for further care to Medical Assistance or RCP staff (unlicensed assistive personnel).

14. Maintains and completes all documentation in an expedient manner in accordance with licensing standards.

15. Acts “on-call” in rotation with other medical staff. While on-call, must be available for medical emergencies and other client-related medical situations. This includes face to face assessments of clients, when indicated, following restraint, illness, medication overdose, and incurred injuries.

16. May be asked to attend initial admissions, conferences with CPS, and annual staffings to assess and review client’s medical care and needs.

17. Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities.

18. Conducts training as directed by the Director, to include Medication training for unlicensed personnel (RCP) and Self Administration of Medication Training.

19. Applies first aid when needed.

20. Inventories and requisitions of medical supplies.

21. Supervise Medical Assistances and acts in Director position when director is not available.

Other duties may be assigned.
