At Houston Methodist, the Career Development Consultant position is responsible for the strategic design, development and deployment of career development initiatives across the Houston Methodist system. This position leads and supports projects and initiatives that impact how leaders and employees can build lasting careers at Houston Methodist and support the organization's ability to grow and retain key talent. This position provides thought leadership in the career development space through the analysis of internal and external data, development of recommendations to support key strategies and initiatives, and ongoing monitoring of effectiveness of programs. This position builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders across the system to provide consulting support to targeted programs and ensure alignment with overall systemwide programs and initiatives. This position requires a passion for developing individuals along with a vision for the future of healthcare and the healthcare workforce as well as the ability to translate ideas into actionable projects and drive execution in a complex and matrixed environment.PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintains strong interpersonal relationships with stakeholders and customers.

Provides career development counseling and coaching to leaders and independent contributors on topics such as development planning, resume writing, and interviewing techniques to assist employees in developing in their careers.

Creates and deploys career development tools, resources, learning content (asynchronous and live), workshops and events in alignment with career development strategies, standards, and practices.

Drives change management and utilization of programs by effectively communicating career development initiatives, resources, and tools to stakeholders throughout the organization utilizing agreed upon channels and timelines in multiple formats (written, video, in-person, etc.).

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Partners with key stakeholders and leaders to design and deploy system-wide and entity focused career development programs including content, marketing, roll out, and ongoing evaluation of programs.

Serves as an internal consultant for career development programs throughout the organization; consultant activities include assessment, intervention, follow-up, evaluation and measurement of outcomes. Provides reports to key stakeholders.

Plans and organizes all aspects of the project life cycle for career development projects including - definition of scope, objectives, compliance, governance, staffing requirements, and ongoing monitoring.

Participates in work groups and committees across the system to support broader Houston Methodist strategic objectives and goals. Adds value to various work groups and councils as advisor, advocate and conduit for the dissemination of information.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assesses career development needs and diagnosis of situation; makes recommendations for the appropriate career development resources, programs, or intervention to enhance individual and organizational effectiveness and support strategic goals within area of responsibility.

Ensures compliance to all relevant regulations and policies directly connected to career development initiatives.

Identifies and leverages appropriate metrics to provide recommendations on programs and interventions as well as to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of solutions and monitor their ongoing impact. Provides data for metrics and quarterly reports. Analyzes and shares trends and key leanings and provides recommendations based on the findings.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Acts as a good steward of organizational resources; seeks low cost or no cost solutions in interventions, maintains certifications to be an internal resource, and consistently uses tax exemption documentation.

Creates business justification for technology, materials, and supplies necessary to support career development initiatives. Orders or procures necessary items within budgetary limitations and assists with monitoring program expenditures.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Keeps abreast of competition, competitive issues, industry, technology and innovation in the field of career development, internal mobility, recruitment, talent acquisition, development, and other role specific topics. Generates and communicates new ideas and suggestions.

Proactively manages own professional development and updates the My Development Plan and Talent Profile on an on-going basis. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management.

Bachelor's degree in human resources, healthcare, education, industrial-organizational (I/O) psychology, or related field

Master's degree in human resources, healthcare, education, industrial-organizational (I/O) psychology, or related field preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE

Five years of experience in a career development, human resources, recruitment, talent acquisition, or organizational development role

Healthcare experience preferred

Experience in leading career development programs preferred

Ability to utilize situational awareness and emotional intelligence to provide recommendations to individuals in a variety of levels

Strong project management skills

Coaching and counseling abilities and the ability to develop the functional and supervisory skills of others

Strong knowledge of leadership competencies and techniques for developing competence

General understanding of the core functions of human resources management and how career development programs integrate

Ability to understand and maneuver in the context of multiple cultures and organizational agendas
