Diploma or Equivalent is required· Other - CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency is requiredExperience· 6 Months experience as a phlebotomist or completion of a one semester course in phlebotomy is preferred· PBT(ASCP) - Phlebotomy Technician Upon Hire is preferredWhat You Will Do· Specimen Integrity:o For those entities performing phlebotomy; employee follows laboratory procedure for specimen collection, patient identification and labeling as appropriate for the age of the patiento Follows laboratory procedures for handling, and processing in a manner which is appropriate and follows safety guidelineso Follows laboratory procedures for handling unacceptable specimens· Test Procedures:o Follows established laboratory test procedureso Performs procedures in other areas of the Laboratory as required by hospital entityo Reports and evaluates test resultso Communicates and documents relevant patient data to appropriate personnelo Communicates with nursing personnel if there is a delay in specimen collection or questions about orderso Patient Treatment: Demonstrates competence in the performance of age appropriate patient treatment and individualizes care based on age specific criteria· Laboratory Operations:o Facilitates workflow processo Helps other hospital and laboratory coworkers to provide timely patient careo Processes specimenso Demonstrates ability to perform specimen processing protocolso Checks outstanding collection listo Troubleshoots and follows through on outstanding collections which appear to have not been collected/received when expectedo Knows and uses computer downtime procedures as neededo Relays information to next shift and coworkerso Performs outpatient processingo Inputs laboratory orderso Calls physician for clarification of orders if necessaryo Performs medical necessity checking of applicable orderso Stocks supplies in work area at the beginning and the end of the shift and/or as neededo Gives proper notification when supplies need to be orderedo Demonstrates active cost effectivenesso Utilizes time between collections to accomplish other needed tasks (ex. supply management, housekeeping duties, checks with other areas and provides assistance)· Professional Accountability:o Participates in orientation and training of students, volunteers, new employees, and observerso Maintains commitment to profession by attending continuing education sessions. (ex. Web seminars, ASCP seminars, Tarleton and Lab sponsored seminars by industry)o Completes mandatory hospital/laboratory education and departmental competencies within required time frameo Mandatory health requirements are completed within required time frameo Completes assigned work within required time and offers assistance to other coworkerso Uses laboratory equipment (computer, instruments, etc.) for hospital use onlyo Time and attendance is satisfactoryo Employee exhibits a professional appearanceo Seeks assistance/supervision/consultation as needed and reports to supervisor any problems and/or solution regarding delivery of patient careo Interacts professionally and pleasantly with all encountered and promotes customer satisfactiono Performs patient care tasks in a manner enhancing the quality of careo Adheres to THR Promise Behaviors· Quality Control/Documentation:o Quality control guidelines are followedo Quality control and equipment maintenance documentation is in compliance with all departmental quality control procedures and all regulatory guidelineso The data is accurate, complete, and legibleo Troubleshoots quality control and instrumentation effectively· Safety:o Incorporates safety/infection control measures into work practiceso Follows HIPAA guidelineso Demonstrates knowledge and follows all hospital and lab safety/infection control policies and procedureso Participates in required hospital/laboratory safety drillso Utilizes the event reporting tool to document and report patient situations, on-the-job injuries, and medical device malfunctioningAdditional perks of being a Texas Health employee
