Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.S ummaryThe primary purpose of the Coordinator, Coding Training position is:Facilitate training and auditing services for specific coding area(s) by: designing effective training/audit materials; delivering educational training and/or programs to support user duties; monitoring and evaluating the quality of coded data while maintaining institutional, compliance and departmental policies in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).Key Functions

Collaborates with management to determine the best training methodology.

Responsible for planning, developing and presenting an effective training curriculum/process

Maintains evaluation instruments to measure accomplishment of objectives and/or competencies; develops and communicates audit/training schedule

Maintains accurate records of progress; monitors and reports coder quality and productivity; provides managers with training/audit assessment to assist in the identification of additional educational needs

Evaluate correct code assignments to verify accuracy consistent with coding rules and regulations

Identify compliance risks and financial opportunities based on chart reviews to reduce systemic billing errors

Demonstrate ability to work independently, reviews and interpret medical records and applies in-depth knowledge of coding principles to determine potential coding issues and quality concerns

Perform audits to monitor and validate ongoing UT Systems requirements with applicable rules and guidelines.

Promotes development and effective use of skills in areas such as critical and analytical thinking, problem solving, and decision making; conducts needs assessments; provides coder with timely feedback on their progress; provides one-on-one training as needed

Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of institutional coding policies and procedures; maintains knowledge of ICD-10-CM, PCS, DRG, SOI, ROM and CPT-4 coding guidelines according to CMS, AMA, AHA and other official sources; keeps staff up to date with coding regulations to ensure compliance

Create and maintain departmental policies

May conduct coding and compliance research as necessary

Serves as a subject matter expert for other departmental users

Ability to cover for other trainer(s) and/or auditor(s)

May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.Preferred Experience/Skills:Experience with training/education, auditing coders, proficient in Profee and facility coding.Certifications/Licenses:Required one of the following:Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) certification from (AAPC). Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
