The Data Engineering Lead provides high-level database support by verifying databases associated with network tools and solutions function as required. Focuses on establishing the architecture, design, and security of various databases. Provides database support by verifying databases associated with network tools and solutions function as required. Applies expert knowledge of database management systems to coordinate maintenance and changes to database. Provides direction to programmers and analysts as required to affect changes to database management systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the preventive and corrective maintenance and incident management measures performed by team members. Provides technical direction and frameworks to meet business needs. Serves as a key representative and subject matter expert on major database initiatives. Determines high-level database structural requirements from a project's inception to its conclusion by working with business stakeholders and identifying optimal database specifications. Ensures that database design and system capabilities meet validated user requirements. Uses complex data mapping, data mining and data transformational analysis tools to design and develop databases. Supports sequencing diagrams and process flow development, data profiling, data analysis, and logical and physical data modeling. Gathers and researches user requirements and liaises with developers and other staff to improve applications and establish standards, best practices and procedures with an ability to document, report issues, and provide resolutions. Maintains knowledge of new tools or technologies, evaluates integration, and makes recommendations based on the capabilities of the existing infrastructure. Creates advanced tests, develops complex databases, and tunes database performance, reviewing database performance trends and identifying opportunities for improvement. Designs large-scale disaster recovery procedures and database backup and recovery plans. Responsible for planning the installation of operating systems, databases, applications, development upgrades, and new releases. Leads the planning and execution of any needed upgrades to software applications and ensures necessary licensing is maintained. Establishes standards, controls and procedures to ensure data integrity and security. Performs capacity planning and projection for future growth. Develops strategies and processes for data implementation, data acquisition, execution, reporting and archive recovery.
Coordinates across multiple operations/teams to add and support reporting insight (including best practices for KPI/SLA/OLA/SOP) and other needs. Estimates, plans, and leads Transition efforts to include managing the people, process, and technology related activities required to set up and begin operations for a new outsourcing engagement with a client.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required or equivalent relevant experience. Master's Degree Preferred. Candidates may be subject to a government background investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information. U.S. Citizenship is required. 10+ years of experience working with progressively more complex or large-scale databases.

Experience with Cloudera, AWS, and Tableau

Experience with business intelligence reporting and data visualization

Advanced knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies. Experience in developing and maintaining complex database environments. Knowledge of Data Warehouse, Big Data constructs, Business Intelligence and end-user displays. Ability to work with Developers, System Administrators, Architects, and IT Management to plan and size production systems. Extensive experience with DBA productivity and performance tools. Familiar with database concepts and technologies in a cloud environment. Experience with DoD and Federal Government is strongly desired. Advanced knowledge of security network and infrastructure tools, including access control and/or encryption. In depth knowledge of troubleshooting skills and out of the box thinking to overcome data obstacles. Ability to create and maintain connections between databases and data sources. Ability to delegate/split tasks among a team.
