Director of Marketing Analytics

The Director of Marketing Analytics plays a critical role in the marketing organization as they are not only a leader who understands business needs, they also have strong data analytics capabilities. They work by identifying key business issues, collaborating with their peers and business leaders, and leading development of data analysis and insight generation. The Director of Marketing Analytics' primary objective is drive insights generation and explain the impact of these insights to key business stakeholders. They will understand common challenges in data structures and strategies to build data products in an extensible, scalable, and performant manner. Director of Marketing Analytics you will be responsible creating a well-designed marketing analytics strategy with the goal to make smarter and more informed business decisions and improve overall business strategy. Finally, the Director of Marketing Analytics will also mentor junior analysts and teach them appropriate methodologies and techniques for efficient data analysis.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Independently receive and conduct ad-hoc data analysis and reporting requests that require data blending from multiple data sources
  • Work collaboratively and develop relationships with Marketing stakeholder groups to build data solutions and develop and design advanced analytics POCs
  • Structure and present analyses to executives and other key stakeholders
  • Define problem statement and extract user requirements for Marketing related data analysis
  • Develop and present analyses and reports using data visualization and storytelling best practices
  • Identify underlying trends or patterns and generate meaningful insights/recommendations for the business
  • Identify and report anomalies to the overall Data Guardian for the enterprise
  • Participate in data quality issue analysis and resolution recommendations
  • Collaborate with peer analysts across the enterprise to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and trust from internal customers
  • Develop predictive models that can be operationalized for ongoing use
  • Provides thought leadership for complex problems requiring a data science approach
  • Support enterprise-wide research efforts that benefit the overall measurement of revenue growth and other key business goals

Qualifications & Competencies:
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in marketing analytics
  • 3-6 years' experience in a management role in marketing analytics or equivalent
  • M.A./M.S. degree in statistics, data science, business analytics, mathematics, or related field
  • Has led advanced analytics teams to create insights for a marketing organization
  • Has experience translating technical terms and explaining complex analysis to business stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Business Intelligence Tools
  • Has profiled, explored, and combined datasets in a cloud data warehouse
  • Experience with real-time POS data, big data pipelines, structured, semi-structured, and unstructured datasets
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
  • Positive can-do attitude with strong initiative and follow through
  • Advanced Analytics capabilities using statistical and data visualization tools
  • Previous experience in Retail, CPG, Marketing, Loyalty/CRM or eCommerce is a plus.
  • Experience with Agile and Scrum preferred.
  • Snowflake (preferred), Redshift, or BigQuery
  • PowerBI (preferred), Tableau, or Qlik

Notes From Client Call:
  • Need someone who is knowledgeable from a tech perspective, but also able to deal with people
  • Understand business issues and be able to mentor and provide priorities for team to work on
  • Agile
  • Someone that knows their tech stack (not Python)
  • Power BI (moving towards more Power BI)
  • Adobe Analytics for online reporting (something similar will work)
  • Would love to see Snowflake (something similar would work)
  • Experience building models
  • Doesn' t need to be deep in building models. Must be able to maintain and own them though
  • Will take everything from everywhere and understand it from a reporting perspective (all channels)
  • Building customer models and understanding the customer hygiene (not Digital focused)
  • Leverages data hygiene, data pins, able to understand code written and can get hands dirty
  • Able to have conversation and dumb it down for others
  • Media knowledge/experience

    nice to have (Digital)
  • Just getting into digital/e-commerce
  • Salesforce, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Salesforce Social and Service are in their environment (does not need Salesforce exp.)
  • Retail experience is a big plus
  • Not looking for the latest and greatest technology, but can leverage what they have
  • Might have access to implement technology if trusted
  • Maybe moving towards Azure
  • Will be working with Omni channel team
  • Will work with multiple teams (will be sharing data with them)
  • Will have 3 direct reports (only 1 is in place currently (data manager of analytics), 2 data scientist being hired)
